I have been onto the people who fixed my gearbox and they have said there is a 6 month warranty on it so they will be taking another look at it in the near future "what a relief" so i am going to persevere a little longer with it i do have a technical question for our resident guru though sorry Nik.... i had a radiator pipe replaced and when i collected the car it was running a little lumpy this has got worse and can't seem to figure out why,its running rich aswell you can smell the petrol quite strongly any ideas or tips as funds are low and if i can do it myself i would prefer to do so.i seem to have a max speed of around 30-40 mph and it sounds like a tractor.i dont believe its the exhaust possibly ht or spark plug problem (hopefully)

waatch the big pipe directly under the HT Box it can be expensive if that splits

thanks kizzie already checked that one parts have gone already -
crank breather is here marked number 1 when you look at the engine follow it up the left hand side to where the engine almost touches the air filter box the crank breather is a black disc attached to the engine via a black box and pipe and attaches to the air intake pipe just behind the engine in mine the pipe has come away from the disc easy to replace yourself part is about engine_layout.bmp

hi all i have been in touch with our friends at frauds and asked for a quote on the following..... Radiator Upper Hose to repair parts and labour -
i just paid a grand to have a clutch problem sorted on my v6 if you didnt pay a lot i would sell it spares or repair as the repair wont last and there will be no warranty after 6000 miles only other option is a recon box

Hi All, I am having a few more problems and am hoping some-one out there can help I own an R reg Galaxy 2.8 v6 (headache)..... This question is best suited to an owner or techie who has worked on this model as the haynes book doesnt cover it mechanically very well a all.... Coolant pipe: it is attached to the Rad and the right hand side top of engine and the pipe runs down to the back somewhere aswell quite a big pipe but to much of a job for some-one as inexperinced as myself could some-one give me a rough cost or quick fix if possible split is about 9mm pipe diameter is about 5cm..... second I cant find any literature saying what this is: so anyone who can digest my description could help on the v6 lump at the top on either side of the engine appears to be a black plastic box held on with allen bolts the one on the right has the HT leads(opposing end to spark plugs)coming out of it,the one on the left towards the back of the engine is a pipe which should be attached to a large plastic disc and pipe.(the disc has actually come away from the pipe it isnt gushing out oil but it seems to be a light spray.... can anyone shed some light on this part name/description I have sketched the location of each and numbered them the one marked 1 is the oil related fault and the one marked 2 is the coolant pipe related one......any help would be greatley appreciated.....ta in advance engine_layout.bmp

Thanks All much, appreciated, the fault code reader in halfords wasnt worth it which is why i took it to the VW specialist the reader was made by er.......genson or something like that it was the only ODBii i could find and they wanted 139.99 for it considering it only beeped the code and cleared it it wasnt worth it so dont buy it since the codes were cleared it feels like a different car bar the first gear issue its surprising how much it can change the only other one is the maf sensor fault was an open circuit i have been told this means constantly open rather than electrical open circuit i assume the performance difference since the vag resest has sorted that... anyone with knowledge of autoboxes please give me a shout thanks again all daz -

for some reason in drive 1st gear isnt selecting but if you put it in first its fine there could be a faulty sensor/problem with the selector or worse case knackered Gearbox or some shaft thingy that attaches the engine to the gearbox thoug i cant see that as all the gears theoretically work although you miss 1st when in drive. The throttle valve is electronic so it could also be a sensor which is why i posted,i was hoping soemone else may have a similar issue.or no this fault from using VagCom it only cost me -

ended up taking it to a local VW specialist and he returned with the following can anyone understand what this means Code:01165 Throttle Valve control unit J388:fault in basic setting Code:00297 Gearbox Speed Sender-G38 No signal cheers daz -

cheers guys much appreciated oh yeah i used FMS for parts they are really cheap and send it to you i posted this ages ago but they are worth giving a call in the future............ will let you know if the fault finder works i know its not vag com but its cheaper than buying a laptop and leads if you ever come across anyone in surrey with a vag com kit and doesnt mind sharing it for a day let us know greatly appreciated daz -

cant find the plug removed ashtray(pullout) not there on drivers side there are 2 little doors the bigger higher one has all the fuses in and the one underneath has some more fuses but no plug cant seem to find it does anyone have the same model and possibly some pics to find.....sorry guys need to ask. also came back from the southcoast yesterday and on the way back the revs went right up to 5k at 80mph i dont want to blow the egine up any ideas.... this is why i need to find the ecu plug pleeeeaaase heeeeeelp -

Hi All, me again..... can anyone tell me where to locate the socket for the vag com lead i am going to get a cheap fault finder from halfords and want to find the plug to determine the connector as i have asked before there is no-one in my area with a Vag com so will have to do it as cheaply as possible. does anyone know where i can get the usual MPG for my model as our favoured haynes manual doesnt cover my model ....what a cop out its strange how this model is hated by all dealers why the bl**dy hell did they make it........

thanks to those that have offered useful advise much appreciated,those who have no help should not respond,sarcasm is the lowest form of wit........ I was wrong have dismantled the key and found no LED's this must mean it is radio remote i assume maybe there is something else wrong with the alarm then.....can you tell me where the alarm is actually situated to ensure there are no loose wires and could a faulty alarm cause the interior light fuse to blow hi nik thanks for the advice greatly appreciated..i think you responded on an earlier post i can only find one internal sensor rear window at top(drivers side)

hi all been on here a few times but this forum lark is a nightmare... i have a few questions and would apreciate anyones help but preferably someone who is suffering like me.... please no redirections to threads. ABS light intermittently on/off no change in brakes doesnt matter whether it is raining/sunny,why? Interior light fuse keeps blowing every few weeks, it has a 4A mini blade is this right? Key Fob (InfraRed) intermittently stops working,Any reason why? Alarm doesnt seem to work no audio,visual or shock sensor but doors lock and lights flash when using key bottom left corner of windscreen fogs up possibly heat from engine bay. MPG has dropped from 18-15.7mpg (round town) 27-24/25 on 2 hr motorway trip why? driving in general good but it dosnt like pulling away in drive it now goes to 2-3000 revs before pulling away is there anyone in the croydon area who has vag com and willing to help. can anyone help its a lovely motor and i really dont want to get rid but this is starting to get silly now Please send message instead of thread reply this way i can list the faults and fixes and repost thanks in advance Daz

I have a 2.8i v6 and it had standard mondeo tyres fitted when i bought it,it was used by a family and the tyre wall was wearing out if you have kids and use the full capacity of the gal i would advise you to use the reinforced ones. a little more expensive but you cant put a price on your safety... regards Daz p.s mine are 15" factory standard alloys with inward bending spokes they sound the same -

do you have two keys one remote and one that looks standard... if so try this in the ignition put the standard key turn to stage 1 close the door and put the remote key in the door lock turn left once to lock then turn 3 times to the right the light should flash 3 times..... when it does this remove it from the door hold down the top button and press the bottom button 3 times then release them both the led should come on and stay on wait for it to go out then open the door remove the key form the ignition and close the door and try to lcok it with the remote...fingers crossed this will work...mine did

Urgent Advice On Drivetrain

it doesnt sound like its grinding or running dry but when you pull away it takes a few seconds to decide to move i know the auto is pretty slow but i live near a reasonalby steep hill when i pull onto it the revvs goto 3500 and it sounds laboured it then decides to pull away but only creeps away the only way to describe is its like sitting on a bus and when it pulls away from the lights the engine really revvs before you feel the thing move, i am new to autos but it feels like the clutch is slipping on a manual once its going it isnt to bad it is literally when pulling away,the kickdown is pretty useless at low speed i tried the kick down and then in drive chucking it into "3" (i know you shouldnt do that but there was more of a kick chucking it into a lower gear than than the kickdown seems to be able to manage. please can you advise me on what to check for, there are no leaks and other than this the motor is lovely. have noticed it judders a bit at 30mph when i give it a little more gas it clears up it just dont like third gear very much @1500-2000rpm....from other posts the gearbox is pretty indestructable so could it be wiring or sensor problem cheers daz -
