update i forgot to say the numberplate goes behind wiper motor on bulkhead side of gap. that stops the filter fouling on way out and back in at the point behind wiper motor if you changed one before ule understand and if its your first time u will follow my tip all skin on hands intact. on refitting once filter has reached start of it housing use ur right hand and push filter inwards as your left hand slides it into position to clip it home. make sure it is seated properly in the housing to keep water and debris out or it will cost a lot in repairs further on check the direction of arrows on old filter before removing so as to put new on in same way.only thing i removed was engine cover and bulkhead firewall as in seatkids pic nothing else touched or loosened .

thanks seat kid great pics easy followed.. a very simple tip to add and it makes this awkard job a real doddle ive an 07 sharan same as 06 galaxy get a numberplate u have 2 on the car so no excuses place the numberplate right up to to filter housing being careful to keep the loose single cable towards back right hand side of wiper motor underneath it unclip filter n glide it across numberplate fitting is reversal I found leaving wipers down in park position was best happy days everyone oops put numberplate back where u got it
