I have just removed the factory fit stereo on my mk2.... replaced it with a Pumpkin C0250 double din Android 4.4.4 head unit - just remove the stereo and use a multitool to cut the top and bottom plastic rim, leave the side rims in place..... Got a couple of plastic double din connectors from USA ebay for £10 - they fit a Ford Cougar - screw them on to the sides of the head unit and push into place...... fits fine, works a treat, only perfectionists would need to buy new fascia :)
