  1. Hi all, have always had the dreaded limp mode ever since I've had my Sharan (about 3 years) but have always put up with it as only normally does it when cold. Recently started getting pressurisation in cooling system, and after the normal routine of changing everything had to accept it was head gasket! Well £600 later the pressurisation has gone but the overboosts were becoming more frequent so after trawling the forum started fiddling and a couple of days ago removed and cleaned the map sensor. Since doing this the boost seems better but last night the car developed a hissing under boost, i've had a look but just can't seem to trace it or see an obvious pipe in the area of the hissing. It can be heard on tickover but gets louder the harder the car is driven. It's coming from somewhere around the aternator area by the sounds of it so maybe a small vacuum pipe maybe? Any ideas please? 2000 115 AUY Mk2
  2. Mine had a very similar leak and it was cam cover (rocker) gasket. All cured now
  3. Hi, does anybody happen to have a part number for the coolant pipe that comes off the top of the header tank and goes to a T piece, it's the one that has the hard plastic restrictor in it. As a temporary measure I replaced it with a straight thru pipe as it became blocked but forgot to note down part number before chucking it away...DOH!!!! It's a 115 AUY engine, either ford or VW part number would be fine as have them both local to me. Thanks
  4. When the EGR clogs up it can make a manual kangaroo and very hard to drive at slow speed, if it clogs in an auto this could confuse the gearbox and make it jump into and out of gears etc. Are you getting any black smoke etc? if so this could point to EGR problems. Prob way off the mark but just a thought.
  5. I'd say a Tdi would be fine, also alot of people prefer automatics for towing although I prefer a manual. I once towed a twin axle ifor williams with a mini on the back with a 1l petrol Suzuki SJ hairdressers jeep.....it was slow up the hills but it did a couple of longish runs no probs. Just make sure whatever you buy has had a recent cambelt, or get one done before towing.
  6. Broken tailgate wiring perhaps? common fault and has drained a good battery on a couple of cars i've had.
  7. Not sure if it's any help but I had the same issue of only having 1 key with a Mk4 golf a few years back, somebody will probably shoot me down in flames but here goes... As you said, the dealer quote is £200 for the key, plus X amount for programming it which is stupid! Now if it's a 54 plate it will probably be the VW immo system rather than the ford pats system. If this is the case then the cheapest way to having 2 working keys is to buy a second hand (or new) flip key assembly with a new blank blade off fleebay (or similar), making sure the key has a new transponder chip in it. Then get a good local locksmith or key cutter to cut your new blade for you (normally charge around £20). Then you take your 2 keys and car to VW (or seat) and they should only charge you an hour or so labour to reprogramme your 2 keys to your car. Doing it this way should get you a second working key for around £100. I'm sure now i've said all this yours will be the ford system, but It's worth a go! If you do go down that route just make sure when you take it in if they ask you if your new key is genuine VW say yes as the don't like Ebay keys!!! although they are identical to look at Good luck
  8. Hi all, first post on this forum, just after a bit of advice really. My vehicle is a 2000 Sharan fitted with the AUY 115bhp PD engine. The car started lurching and missing at low speed and after reading up a bit thought it could be EGR related so as a temporary measure I pulled off the vacuum pipe and plugged it to disable the EGR valve. It has ran fine and not missed a beat since but my MPG have fell from 55 down to just below 40 so think it's got to go! After looking at the valve and also speaking to Allard I believe mine has the 57mm clip on style EGR valve. Have been told that the clip on style pipes can be unreliable so my question is do i.... A. Buy the correct replacement EGR delete pipe with clip on connection on one end (bit more expensive) B. Buy the Cheaper 57mm EGR delete without the clip on connection and buy a new 90 degree silicon hose to replace the original? Another option is the darkside developments 57mm kit but don't think they do the clip on option. Any input greatly received. By the the way, great forum you have here, moving up from a MK4 Golf it certainly is a different kettle of fish tinkering with this one!!! Thanks Gareth
