thanks gregers - point :-) Why can't I click the 'like' button? It says I've exceeded my quota for the day. It says that whenever I try to like any post. Do I need to pass an exam or sumtin'? ;-) pete

I contacted Haynes to buy a workshop manual and they said there wasn't one, nor is there one on the horizon. http://goo.gl/2g9cP6 1. What resources are there, apart from this forum, to support me in DIY? 2. Is this hayneslessness unique to the Galaxy or is there a trend for cars perhaps to be so complex that there isn't a big enough DIY market? pete

gregers - many thanks. I'm quite good at manuals and my Galaxy one doesn't actually tell me where the underfloor storage is! Nor does it tell me what that hook thingy is with the repair kit. I had to phone the spares dept who then had to go away and ponder :-) They then called me back to say that it's the towing hook. and yes, the manual says the towing hook is with the tyre repair kit. :-) something odd about that manual - is there a thread hereabouts discussing it? pete

I've spent about 30 minutes googling without any luck. We're about to make our first full-on trip to a ceramic show in the Netherlands, and are towing a caravan as well as carrying all the tables, pots and sundries for the show, plus stuff made by colleagues who are taking advantage of our trip. Having killed our Fiat Multipla doing similar I'd like to get on top of what we're asking our car to do. tia pete

What is the current drain when the car is switched off, and is it greater/less/the same when locked? pete

seatkid: thanks Our regular garage spoke with his contact at the main dealer and confirmed that to the best of everyone's knowledge, the service history was correct as stamped. In any case, it's already bought and on our drive, looking incredibly cooool and way to good for the likes of us! We'll ride the first year's warranty with caution and by the time that runs out our own man will have got his hands in her innards. He's vatable so his service will qualify. pete PS. Can anyone explain why, when I try to click the '√ Like This' link on people's posts, I get an alert saying 'You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day'? You three are the only posts I've seen on this forum and I can't 'Like' any of you.

SilverBeast: thanks :-) I'd love to share builder stories but this prolly ain't the forum for it :-) I look forward to passing care of my car to our longstanding garage. pete

Gregers: thanks :-) I'm uneasy about any compulsory trust situation. At least I have a relationship with my regular mechanic. I know these main dealers not at all. not sure what you mean, sorry. If you mean recalls, there is one stamped in my log book. btw. what's the difference between (from the service book) 'Service Record' and 'Scheduled Maintenance Record', and why should I need to ask? did that, thanks. no problems found. delighted to be here :-) pete

Back in the day, when I bought a car or bike, I'd expect a wallet full of old receipts, perhaps MOTs etc. as well as a stamped service book, if there was one. We've just bought a used Galaxy from a Ford main dealer and all we got was the stamped service book that doesn't even specify the sort of service. When I called the dealership to get a full history, such as when was this or that replaced/repaired, they refused to tell me other than to promise to send me a copy of the latest service while under sale. I asked what would happen if I went to the local branch of the same dealership for future servicing and was told that they would have a full service history. When asked if I could have a printout I was told that their computer system had crashed a year or so earlier and although it was possible to view historical records, it wasn't possible to print them out! The receptionist said that she would look through the history and /write down/ any specific items and snailmail them to me. This seems like madness. Is it in fact the norm these days? What does FSH mean? What kind of computer system can display but not print? What rights do I have to a /full/ service history when buying a used car from a main dealer? pete
