  1. Hi. I recently had starting problems with my 2002 auy115 galaxy. Eventually turned out to be that the timing belt had stripped a few teeth which had altered the timing so it wouldn't start. One of the fault codes present at the time was : Cam sensor out of range. If you unplug the sensor the ecu should run a default value and the car may start At no point however did my rev counter do anything strange and my car would not run at all. It fired up very roughly with the sensor disconnected. Chris.
  2. HI. Thought I would post an update on this in case anyone has a similar problem in the future. Finally got round to looking at the Galaxy. Put a new belt and tensioner kit on it, turned it over by hand twice, rechecked the timing which was out very slightly because I couldn't get the timing tool to line up. Adjusted it then again span it over by hand to double check again. All seemed ok. Put some jump leads on because it had been sitting for 4 months. Thought I would just quickly try it to see if it would turnover without any strange noises ie bent valves/holes in pistons etc. To my complete amazement it started first time so I put it all back together properly, it now seems to run better than it has for ages. Moral of the story is dont forget to change your belt. I almost too embarassed to say that the old belt had done over 80000 miles since I last changed it. Car has now done 267000 miles. Roll on 300000. Chris.
  3. HI. My car (2002 1.9 TDI 115 AUY ENGINE) cut out recently whilst driving, then would not restart. After plugging in diagnostic it came up with cam sensor out of range, which after reading other people's posts I figured meant that the belt might have jumped a notch or the tensioner may have failed. I have just spent the afternoon taking it apart to see what has happened, which wasn't fun as I had to drill out all four crankshaft damper bolts as they had seized. I then found lots of cambelt teeth behind the pulley. The timing is out by 1 or 2 notches, I haven't got the locking tool to check it properly yet. Does anybody have any previous experience of a stripped cambelt and any likely engine damage as the engine still seems to turnover fine but obviously will not run? Chris.
  4. When you take the old ones out and compare with the new there is a big size difference. Handy hint is to use mole grips to clamp the new bush shut on the edge of the clamp bracket, you can then put the bolt back in and put the nut on by hand.
  5. Hi. After reading this post the other day I decided to replace the anti-rollbar bushes as my galaxy was making a kind of sqelching noise over bumps. They took about 45 minutes to do the pair and it has cured the noise. Very easy fix. Wish I had done them before.

  7. Hi. My 02 plate Galaxy failed MOT because of corrosion on offside jacking point this year. The nearside will need doing before next MOT. Was easy to fix by welding plate around the box section. Chris.
  8. Hi there. I did my AUY Galaxy a couple of years ago because the water pump impeller had broken. It was all straight forward. I didn't use any special tools other than the already mentioned drill bits, I used circlip pliers to adjust the tensioner which worked fine. Good luck. Chris.
  9. I totally agree. I would not fancy anything hitting the car higher up as the only protection would be the boot lid.
  10. Speaking from my recent experience of someone driving into the back of my Galaxy at about 30mph, I would say that they are pretty strong. Mine only needed a rear bumper, parking sensors, light and and a spare wheel winch assembly. Chris.
  11. Gregers. I know. If the insurance company wasn't paying I could get away with a new bumper and paint. I've had a good look underneath and the floor isn't rippled and there is no obvious other damage. Chris.
  12. The Matiz fell to bits, total write off. I can upload picture if anyone is interested. Chris.
  13. Hi Mirez. Didn't really feel much, did see her flying up behind me in the mirror which was a bit scary though. The DMF was quite straightforward to fit, the bolts were quite tight though. Got the the gearbox out in about 3hrs but was much harder to put back as it's quite heavy and you have to lift up the rear of it first to clear the mount where the roll restrictor fixes at the rear of the engine. Chris.
  14. Knew I shouldn't have fixed it, haven't really driven it since March then......... Yesterday I got rear ended by a stupid person in a Daewoo Matiz. Managed to completely destroy the front of the Daewoo. Galaxy seems relatively ok, apart from needing rear bumper and support bar, parking sensors, spare wheel holder and rear light. I was quite amazed at how well it took the impact.
  15. Hi Everybody. Just spent most of a day fitting a new DMF and clutch to my Galaxy TDI 115. The old DMF had locked itself solid, causing horrendous engine vibration which had gradually got to the point of the doors shaking when open. My car has done 218000 miles and was still on the original clutch. This was only worn by about 2mm on the friction plate and was perfectly ok, which is quite amazing considering the mileage (new one fitted anyway) Hardest part of the job was lifting the box back in, other than that quite a straight forward job. The difference is amazing, it's like having a new car, the gear change is better probably due to oil change, it's so much quieter and the clutch feels better. Chris. ;)
  16. Thanks for that. I was hoping it would be the flywheel rather than the gearbox. The annoying thing is that when on the move it drives perfectly ok.
  17. Hello everybody. I have a problem with my 1.9tdi 115 Galaxy. When it's idling the engine is vibrating all over the place, if you open the door it shakes up and down it's that bad. I have checked the engine mounts and roll restrictor at the rear and they all seem to be ok. I think that it could be the DMF or gearbox but i'm not sure which. If you put your foot on the clutch the vibration changes slightly but not by much. Has anybody else experienced these symptoms ?
  18. You could only fit them by getting the centre bore of the wheel machined, and by using variable pitch bolts. So it's probably not really worth the effort.
  19. Hi Coxsey. The same thing happened to my Galaxy about 3 months ago. The teeth on the output piece on the gearbox had stripped leaving me with no drive. After going to a Ford Dealer who recommended a new gearbox, I tried another one. Ended up buying the output flange for about
  20. Sorry that was my bad punctuation. Might have to invest in a gas mask that would solve it
  21. I understand about the heater only coming on under 10 degrees etc but this has only happened when the engine has been up to temperature and i've been driving for about 40 miles ish.
  22. I have checked all the door seals and they all seem ok, i'll try and take off the rear interior panel tomorrow to see if there is anything amiss or the rear vent is blocked open, it just seems strange that the cabin would fill up at speed and only occasionally.
