Hi. I recently had starting problems with my 2002 auy115 galaxy. Eventually turned out to be that the timing belt had stripped a few teeth which had altered the timing so it wouldn't start. One of the fault codes present at the time was : Cam sensor out of range. If you unplug the sensor the ecu should run a default value and the car may start At no point however did my rev counter do anything strange and my car would not run at all. It fired up very roughly with the sensor disconnected. Chris.

Stripped Tdi 115 Cambelt

HI. Thought I would post an update on this in case anyone has a similar problem in the future. Finally got round to looking at the Galaxy. Put a new belt and tensioner kit on it, turned it over by hand twice, rechecked the timing which was out very slightly because I couldn't get the timing tool to line up. Adjusted it then again span it over by hand to double check again. All seemed ok. Put some jump leads on because it had been sitting for 4 months. Thought I would just quickly try it to see if it would turnover without any strange noises ie bent valves/holes in pistons etc. To my complete amazement it started first time so I put it all back together properly, it now seems to run better than it has for ages. Moral of the story is dont forget to change your belt. I almost too embarassed to say that the old belt had done over 80000 miles since I last changed it. Car has now done 267000 miles. Roll on 300000. Chris. -
HI. My car (2002 1.9 TDI 115 AUY ENGINE) cut out recently whilst driving, then would not restart. After plugging in diagnostic it came up with cam sensor out of range, which after reading other people's posts I figured meant that the belt might have jumped a notch or the tensioner may have failed. I have just spent the afternoon taking it apart to see what has happened, which wasn't fun as I had to drill out all four crankshaft damper bolts as they had seized. I then found lots of cambelt teeth behind the pulley. The timing is out by 1 or 2 notches, I haven't got the locking tool to check it properly yet. Does anybody have any previous experience of a stripped cambelt and any likely engine damage as the engine still seems to turnover fine but obviously will not run? Chris.

Hi. My 02 plate Galaxy failed MOT because of corrosion on offside jacking point this year. The nearside will need doing before next MOT. Was easy to fix by welding plate around the box section. Chris.

Diy Cambelt Change On A Tdi

Hi there. I did my AUY Galaxy a couple of years ago because the water pump impeller had broken. It was all straight forward. I didn't use any special tools other than the already mentioned drill bits, I used circlip pliers to adjust the tensioner which worked fine. Good luck. Chris. -
How Safe Is A Galaxy In A Rear End Collision/shunt.

I totally agree. I would not fancy anything hitting the car higher up as the only protection would be the boot lid. -

It used to be a Daewoo Matiz. -

Speaking from my recent experience of someone driving into the back of my Galaxy at about 30mph, I would say that they are pretty strong. Mine only needed a rear bumper, parking sensors, light and and a spare wheel winch assembly. Chris.
