  2. Hi ...Hope it is/was your Water thermostat. I would put money on ref ... water pump impeller parting off shaft. as said above.. Its an standard inherent Vw fault on these type engines.best fit a pump with metal impeller.not like original plastic crap... i had same problem.
  3. Hi Had the same problem a few years ago... Try the water Temperature sender unit, located--Back of engine block, right hand side. Buy an original more expensive- vw part replacement.. not patent as they may not be calibrated to match the E.C.U input corectly .. so you could still end up with rev probs ... Which i found out to my cost and waste of time... Happy days with correct unit.. hope it works for you A.T.Bst mate
  4. HI... the Electric water pump on bulk head, is for water circulation to aux-heater matrix at rear of car.. but does do some circulation around generaly.. Me thinks! YOUR MECHANICAL WATER PUMP IS KNACKERED... driven off your timming belt.. Problem is the plastic impeller detaches from the shaft. thus engine Over heating . Crap German design! Hope you've solved the problem before you read this mail and not spent out on wrong diagnoses :(
  5. Hi. Not sure if theres studs which come through roof pre drilled holes from roof rails. or bolts going through from inside through the pre drilled holes out into the roof rails. but certain that you remove the door rubber and pull away the roof lining to get to them. maybe you will not have to pull away the roof lining to much.As some time ago I had to tighten up mine, which had losened after a heavy load put on top of my Galaxy. Hope this info helps you!.
  6. Hi to all. I agree with the sender unit being at fault. there seems to be alot of sh*t sender units on the market place. so even if you replace with a new one, be it a colour grey, or black sender unit- two pin ... a lot of patern parts do not match the electrical current rating required to match the temp guage unit/ecu. thus giving you the temp inacuracies. and also no doubt High reving on start up when engine is cold, as i get at the moment with the replacement patern sender along with all the problems that you have described. My original faulty sender unit, gave me high reving on start up, when the engine was warm.. So all i'm waiting for is wam weather, so i will be more enthusiastic to get this problem sorted. As its a right pain of a job to get to the unit out. from the back corner of the engine. ie. fuel filter in the way has to removed to get acess. My advice after my experience is - buy a genuine part- water temp sender ..Thats my next move. best of luck folks
  7. Had my aux heater apart after heavy smoke from the unit exaust & failed start ups. I removed the glow plug, cleaned it with wet & dry sanding paper. on refitting, noticed the two teminals that fit to the top of the plug, so close together that you have to be carefull that you dont have them touching creating a short circuit or crossing current in damp conditions etc My heater is now working fine..... best of luck folks
  8. Thanks for info mate...I shall try what you've done very soon, as the temperature is droping outside the gearchange probs are becoming an issue again...i'll let you know the outcome...cheers...sorry 4 delayed reply
  9. Hiha folks... all this sounds too familier to me.. i've just booked mine back in after only two months from a gas top up...and dye added to help see where the leak is if any?...hope thay find out the problem this time ... its startin to p me off.bigtime..as the car goes, i'm quite happy... but what a s**t aircon ay? does any body get a year of use out of a unit without any probs? if so which god do you prey too
  10. thanks jeff115 it looks as though VW stuff aint as good as its made out to be...? i usually keep a motor for a long time, so i hope it does'nt get worse..cheers folks
  11. Thanks guys  i'm starting to feel a bit more at ease now i've read your replies...thought it does seem bad that a car with only 21k should feel like its done 100k...but yes it does go ok when its warmed up.....i thought maybe differant oil in the gear box would help?....or something...as you say it must be normal for these Vw gear boxes ...or does anyone say different?
  12. Hiya all...Ref 6 speed manual box...Does anybody have or have had a noisy/notchy gears remote lever gear selection whilst changing gear between 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears when they 1st pull away changing gear from a cold engine start.. The noise seems to be from the gear shift leaver tunnal area...? is there anything i can do to make it change gear smoother? or have i got to spend a lot of money or put up with it...It changes quiet and smooth after a few miles when all has warmed up... just had this motor so its the first thin to anoy me...please can any one help?
