  1. Knock from front could be cv joint, driveshaft, worn track rod end, or anti roll bar drop links. The 1st/reverse could be air in the hydraulic clutch. I know mine was.
  2. God that's rubbish! Time to relocate that I think. Most of the cars I recovered were fine until they met a car going the other way. The bow-waves created by each car would then slap into and over the bonnet of the other car and suck water straight through the air intake. If they had just slowed down to reduce the bow wave, or cut their engine just before they passed, then many of them wouldn't have suffered dead engines from hydraulic lock up. Thanks for the pics. Time to buy another Land Rover. This was my last one....
  3. My bad, quite right, on not off!
  4. Thanks for the info. I take it that it is behind the headlamp or top of the arches?
  5. Hi, does anyone know the height of the air intake on a mk2 gal? I spent a lot of last winter recovering cars that had gone through fairly shallow water and knackered engines. Mostly Mondeos and Astravans. Has the galaxy got the same stupid '3 inches off the floor' design?
  6. My moneys on the blocked pollen filter. Mine was black! Don't think it had ever been changed in the last 12 years.... does it run ok with recirc turned off?
  7. Just had mine fixed. After spending some time looking for the bright yellow dye from the pipes and not being able to see it, we regassed it and listened for the hiss. Hidden behind the air box, drivers headlamp and whatever else lurks on that side of the engine bay are 2 air con pipes. The smaller one had a tiny hole in it, but leaked out in 10 minutes. Never would have seen it! Repaired with an aeroquip hose unit and regassed. I also had track rod end, both drop links on the anti rollbar, pollen filter, water temp sender and tracked for £275. Lovely and cold, even when it was 32C outside!
  8. Hi all. I have a 1.9tdi mk2 manual 6 speed galaxy. Most of the time gear selection is really easy, but sometimes when it hasnt been used for a few hours, it is extremely difficult to get it into any gear. Side to side movement seems ok, but front to back is where the issue starts. Is there a grease point in the gearstick assembly? Is it rod or cable driven? Thanks for any help.
  9. Hi Chrispb123456, thanks for the reply. Whereabouts is the coolant sensor on these engines?
  10. Hi, my 2001 galaxy temperature gauge is doing strange things. It reads normal temp for some of the time, but not all of it. Its like its only seeing the water temp when the thermostat opens. I put my bluetooth obd2 with Torque on it, and according to the ecu, it is swinging between -38c and 95c when warm. Any guesses please? Also, what should the maf be reading? Thank you
  11. I have bought the lead that goes into my laptop, but may well go for the bluetooth to Android option as well, as my smartphone is always in the cradle when I am driving. So now the gauge is fitted, I have noticed that when the engine is cold it boosts to 1.8-1.9 bar, but when warm it is as low as 1.2 bar on full throttle. Is this normal?
  12. I have got a 2 helpers to take the weight. Where are the fixing bolts? Where do the cables disconnect? Thanks.
  13. As the title says....any guidance please, as I will be swapping it Friday afternoon. Thank you.
  14. Hi all. I have a 2 litre duratec petrol mk3 mondeo that rattles from the engine on start up and low throttle between 2000 and 3000rpm. It seems to be coming from the pulley end of the block. So far I have replaced the map sensor, leads, plugs and coil pack. Oil level is fine. No eml showing. Guesses please?
  15. Thank you for the excellent response. This is obviously one of the better forums on the www. I will drill the manifold later. I have also ordered the vagcom lead, so will have a look at that.
