Thanks Insider I do think you are right, there is a varying boost issue but the question really is how can the cause be identified from a host of expensive sensors and control devices. The vanes might be a problem but there is no particular pattern to this fault, let me describe exactly what happens: Randomly sometimes in quick succession as you pull away in first gear and change to second with a medium accelerator depression you start to feel a gentle acceleration followed by deceleration every half second. Higher the gear the less pronounced. This if you hold the accelerator pedal steady will build up to an undrivable heavy acceleration followed by deceleration every half second. This is accompanied by a pulsing turbo noise, like if you blip the engine and the boost back pressure is dissapated by the turbulent air around the turbo blades. (I have not found an air leak anywhere) There are no warning lights showing so I would presume that VAG Com will not be able to identify the problem part? Does VAG Com have the ability to display device paramaters or realtime outputs? Could this could maybe identify or isolate the source of fluctuating boost before resorting to serious dismantling? Could this be an answer if so what version of VAG Com is needed to access the ECU on this car? 409.1? Thanks Rich

Thanks Insider as you rightly say if you remove the VSS wire from the gearbox sensor the speedo will not work. However there is a wire from the speedo to the ECU whose function is damping of turbo boost, but fast response to changes in load conditions is not one of its strong points. It is normal upon sudden application of load at higher engine speeds for the boost pressure to "spike" beyond its eventual setpoint, then drop below the ECU-requested boost pressure, then settle to a stable value after more fluctuations. This can be accentuated by the dual mass flywheel in the gear box chain affecting gearbox pulse timing. Again you are right the ECU wire is there for a reason and the removal of this wire stops these fluctuations and consequent surgeing at the expense of a harsher throttle. I have seen horror stories with people changing many different parts all of which may cause this problem, sensors, ECU, injectors, pump, turbo & pipes and valves costing hundreds of pounds and this problem not getting this cured hence thought I'd try the least cost option just to see first. I know it's not really a Ford but can you help me with this one as they are really the same vehicle in different make up. I have a Sharan 2005 1.9 TDI with intermittent Kangarooing 1000-2000 rpm under light acceleration that you can stop by lifting or putting your foot down. I have read some forums who say this is common to the TDI engine and can be cured by removing the VSS wire that runs from the instrument panel to the ECU. Can anyone help out with a pinout for the 038-909-019-LQ EDC15P+ ECU so I can disconnect the wire at the ECU end rather than dismantling the dashboard. Can any of you techy people help me out with a wiring diagram for this ECU? Or do you know of another fix for this? Hopefully Rich

I went to my local dealer and I agree with DavdJH the new Galaxy is not a replacement for the old one, it is a different vehicle for a different market. The interior is a bit plasticy, the silver centre console looks a bit cheap, the overhead storage in the one I looked at had self adhesive grip sheets inside which were already beginning to peel off, being tall I found that the trendy aircraft style handbrake got in the way (hit my wristwatch on it when putting it in 1st gear to pull away). All the seats tilt, slide and offer lots of space but on the downside, they are a bit flat low and unsupportive. With exposed metalwork on display and windows that don't lower all the way down, the layout does have a bit of a budget feel. Not one for my new shopping list I'm afraid.

Should I Ask Them For My Money Back ?
r1ch4rd replied to a topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
I agree get this offer in writing if you can. Write to the dealer laying out what he has offered to you regarding a different car and ask for confirmation in writing of when this will be done. I think you are being to nice to the dealer who has sold you goods which were not: "Fit for the purpose for which goods of that type are normally sold" Sale of Goods Act. I would be beating on his door!! Stop accepting their put off tactics and put some pressure on them say you will contact and copy all details to Auto Express, they often can get things moving for you. At least tell them and put in writing a deadline to fix the car. Good Luck Richard -
I think you will find that maximum efficiency is in and around the rev range of maximum torque ie on a tdi 1900 rpm. So if you drive keeping the revs around this area you will get better fuel consumption. For petrol engines it is around 2300-3400 depending on the engine.( check your manual) I wonder how many people will now try this out for a week to see!! I dare you!

I presume no one has got a discount yet? Did the card cost anything?

Matt you mentioned big brother, I know what you mean, cameras round my works and site, card ID to get in and out, log on for network, PC remote audited & monitored for useage. Freedom? It's an illusion. Criminals don't even have to break in to your house to rob you either. There's the battle with Phishers, spoofers, hackers, trojans (some hidden on dodgy web pages as a link/button to catch the unwary), viruses & Microsoft security flaws. Every other day I get an email asking me to check and re-enter my details by logging onto ebay or other bank etc on what seems to be the real site. I have got ino the habbit of testing these aparent log in pages by putting a user name like "youmustbe" and a password of "joking" to test the login and irritate the Phishers. What a world we live in. :D

Jeff just to add insult to injury the good old cam belt is due for renewal, I feel another painfull bill coming on. Anyway bikes, humour me for just for a bit longer: My old BSA which as one of you said broke cranks all the time so I bought a spare crank so I could swap it out while the other was fixed. I progressed to japanese bikes the most exillerating and risky bike I bought and one of you mentioned was an RD400 (race tuned). The engine was rough around town the power band and fuel consumption was frightening, pulling wheelies and spinning the rear wheel in the wet and could be likend to being suddenly flung up the road by an unseen huge hand. You've seen bikers with their nose on the handlebars, well I had to, to keep the front wheel in contact with the road. Anyway shortly after that I got married and her indoors thought I should sell it as she didn't want to be a widow. From then on bikes were history and finally after various Fords and children and Vauxhalls I got the good old bad old Galaxy I love her despite her faults but she has such expensive tastes at the moment. :(

I thought when I bought my high tech Galaxy that we had arrived with 21st century built in reliability and looked forward to much pleasure and trouble free driving. But it seems I have been caught in a time warp (forward to the past) and that my Galaxy has taken the place of my good old BSA motorbike, you know the sort of thing oil leak, wiring fault, heater smoke, fuses, wheel bearing, aux water pump and red hot alternator connection and all this in 9 months. Is this just bad luck or should I buy a garage? If I carry on like this I will be a fully fledged mechanic!! PS and broke!! :D

Thanks to my BERU patch I've now given up smoking! Firstly many thanks to martinblackett for his help and speedy supply of a glowplug. I have indeed got round to replacing the plug this week end with help from Ivors pictures. After an hour and a quarter in the freezing cold with numb hands covered in diesel and tears in my eyes from the wind, I turned the key and presto she lit 1st time. Now the unburnt fuel has been purged there is just a satisfying puff of smoke as it starts up each time now then nothing. I went indoors smiling and holding the offending plug and my wife said it's surprising how something that small can give you so much satisfaction!! LOL

Thank you for your welcome and advice MO4, this type of site is new to me as I am a forum virgin! Masked Marauder Thanks for the info on the air intake, I did wonder if there was any filter or something to get blocked before I got serious and dismantled anything so cheers for that. I altered the defaults on the search as you pointed out and uncovered loads of info. It looks as you say that the cause of intermittant ignition is the glowplug and from reading some other correspondence it is the line of least cost and what I shall try first next weekend if I can source the glowplug by then.(Not the main stealer) Cheers Richard

I am a newbie and finding my way round the site and looking for any dismatling instructions to see if I can identify the problem with the Aux heater bain of owners everywhere. Can anyone help with the air flow through the unit? (it seems to fire up regularly if I am at motorway speeds and very seldom in town, but spectacular if and when it does) Does anyone know where the air intake pipe goes to as it disappears into the sill? I hope to also check out the integral air blower and maybe glow plug and metering pump for bad connection. Cheers Richard
