  1. Finally got 2 GKN shafts fitted today , thanks for the advice chaps. Just to clarify I did not have to split the ball joint, just undid the 2 Allen bolts on the bottom arm and levered the strut away.
  2. Ok,. looking at GKN shafts from Eurocarparts,.. they list 2 types though,. one is 508mm the other 507mm,. any ideas which specs I need to be looking for? - the other makes on ebay all seem to be 507mm length , 38 outer splines and 48 ABS teeth)
  3. Ok, just been reading on the replacement process. http://workshop-manuals.com/ford/galaxy_2000.75_04.2000-02.2006/mechanical_repairs/2_chassis/205_driveline/205-04_front_drive_halfshafts/description_and_operation/diagnosis_and_testing/removal_and_installation/front_halfshaft_rh/ Seems being a six speed I don't need to split the balljoints ? and seems pretty straightforward , I have access to all the tools if I need them so I might give it a go myself :) What do you reckon chaps ? I only usually go as far as general servicing and brakes when doing DIY
  4. Thanks for the lengthy explanation insanitybeard I'll try and wriggle underneath with the wheels on the ground! , thanks also chrome! Much appreciated!
  5. Evening All Got a 130 Tdi Mk2 60,000 miles Drove 300 odd miles to Cornwall a couple of weeks ago,. 10 miles from the destination we got a wobble when accelerating under load. Didn't really use the car when we were there,. took it steady on the way back and had a handful of wobblings along the journey. My local mechanic had it in and could not find anything,. checked the driveshafts and looked for play anywhere they could, took it for a long drive and could not get the 'wobble" Anyhow,. decided to take a look myself can I have your views on whether the amount of play in the intermediate shaft is normal ? (it looks relatively new to me - VW stamped so a genuine part),. In the clip I also check the offside and nearside outer shafts, the nearside seems to have a little rattle - welcome your opinions guys. http://youtu.be/ErqXVa5A31Q
  6. Ah, so does the mk1 mechanism share any parts with the mk2 ? My local scrappy have a mk1 in...
  7. Had the Gal 2 weeks, thought I had best check the mechanism, wound down fine but then decided to dump the wheel on the way back up. Drilled out the rivets and its the white gear drom the worm drive that's sheared in two :( , don't suppose anyone has one left over from a rebuild that they would sell?
  8. Thanks for the advice, the emergency key does start the engine, so I guess I am good to give it a go. I'll order myself a new chip
  9. Morning Everyone,. First post!,. became the owner of a 2005 Galaxy Ghia 130 last night,. so naturally the next step with any car is to join the relevant owners forum ! After a panic not being able to start the car this morn,. realised that the previous owner has lost the chip from one of the keys,. I can see I can pick up a new chip for little cost online. My question is,. I have one other working key plus the plastic emergency key - does the emergency key count as one of the two required for additional key coding? Or am I best leaving it to a dealer to sort (luckily I have a good friend who is a Ford Service manager,. so hopefully get it coded at mates charges ) Thanks for looking Jon
