  1. Gregers - yes, I recall something about air feed and/or pipe on nearside pillar so i will investigate that area. chrispb123456 - I agree about fumes going backwards out under the car. With the car stationary, I can't detect any fumes coming in through the air vents (it's difficult to sniff around yourself when you're driving!) Thanks for comments, I'll investigate further. Problem is the wife now has the Galaxy now that I've got a company Focus so I don't get to drive it enough during the week. Will report back when I've investigated further. Cheers.
  2. Hi - Long time since I have posted. Have spent several hours reading through Aux Heater posts plus others on fumes in car etc. My problem is fumes inside car - no visible signs of smoke though. The aux heater appears to work OK, slight puff of smoke on start but otherwise seems to come on/off all as expected. Having no desire to drop the heater just for the hell of it, does anyone think this is an aux heater problem or is it more likely to be smell resulting from faulty injector or similar? Glad to see the forum is still excellent as it always has been. Kev
  3. Last week whilst crossing a busy road junction, I lost all gear selection and was RAC recovered home. You could stir the gearstick round like stirring soup!. Having searched this forum, I checked all the gear selector cables and everything was working OK including the mechanism on top of the gearbox. Suffering the indignity of a second trip on a low loader to my local (non-Ford) garage, they found a sheared bolt on the selector sleeve/linkage inside the gearbox. Now repaired OK but the bolt head has been lost into the gearbox! Looking back at the service history, it seems the same thing happened 2 years ago and was repaired at a main dealer. Two questions .... Is this another achilles heel of the Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra range (although I've not heard of it before)? How worried should I be about probably 2 bolt heads floating around in my gearbox? Hopefully the sump is big enough that they sit at the bottom in the oil!
  4. Well the time has come and I finally had to succumb to a new MAF sensor! Having been quoted
  5. Hi Fivenecks. I have a similar problem (or is it a problem?). My S-reg 1.9Tdi suffers similarly, no degrading of performance but is very flat and sluggish when you put your foot down. I've tried disconnecting the MAF sensor but it makes no difference. Monitoring the various threads on this website, there seems a differing opinion as to whether a "dead MAF" situation should show an improvement or no difference when it's disconnected. I don't know whether I've got a problem or not, maybe I'm expecting too much after driving the company Focus Tdi. Trying a swap with someone else's Tdi or swapping MAF's is probably the way to assess it.
  6. Thanks Chaps!
  7. After detecting a grinding noise when turning right, a search of this site convinced me that it was a problem with the anti-roll bar droplinks. And Yes!, it was :o ....but it didn't need an expert to spot the problem - the top ball joint (suspension leg end) had come apart and the droplink was hanging by its bottom mounting (and I assume was rubbing on the wheel when turning). Rushed up to my local Fraud dealer and
  8. Not sure about 2007R but I fitted a hands free kit to my 2006R. Couldn't find any info searching on the web but I posted a sketch on this site for the 2006R after I'd fitted it.. See the following link or do a search on this site by "mobile phone". Mobile Phone Topic This thread also gives some handy tips as to how to find which pin is the phone mute (I used a lead with a 1K resistor in-line and progressively dab'd on each pin till I found it). I fitted the Nokia CARK-91 kit. If you have any problems when you come to do it, just post the questions here! PS. Make sure you have the correct antenna/aerial. Different networks use different bands. Panorama antennas Panorama Antennas are very helpful and have a good website.
  9. To Mussey 1, sorry for the delay in replying....... How did you attach the cradle to the dash? Did you use a facia bracket or screw the cradle directly to the dash? Also where did you place the control box? I bought a universal fascia bracket for
  10. Don't know about Ghias, I only aford a GLX! Obviously depends on phone type but I fiited a Nokia CAK-91 kit 3 months ago (this takes the 6210 type phones and similar, although different versions are available for other Nokia phones). This is the proper kit, completely hands-free, wired into vehicle electrics and also mutes the radio. Typically
  11. My drivers door lock is also very crunchy and gritty at this very moment. This happened earlier in the year too so sprayed it through the keyhole with WD-40. Now it's happening again, I've bought some 3-in-1 spray (with added PTFE!) which I intend to try (as soon as it stops raining).
  12. Replying to your own posting - how sad can you get! Cambelt was replaced OK. Original one (VW part no.) had 3 small cracks in it but not as bad as I had expected. Feel better now. :)
  13. My Galaxy has been main dealer serviced from new under it's 1 and only previous owner. Checking through the full service history I can find no record of a cambelt change. :D I popped into the dealer concerned and he too could find no record of the belt being changed (and couldn't care a toss about it either!). Suffice to say I am going elsewhere for my (overdue) 90K service. I think I may write to Ford Customer Relations. Some comparitive service costs for info..... Essex Ford - Major Service (inc parts & VAT)
  14. Axel - glad you managed to fit the rails OK. Wish I had had a cutting chart for the rubber strips, took me 3 goes to get it right. You obviously got a good price from e.bay. Makes a Galaxy look much nicer doesn't it! B)
