Thanks for the link, very informative, I presume that if I'm buying a new ring it would best to split if first rather than disconnect the drive shaft ?

One of the ABS rings on my 2.3 corroded and came off some time ago. I see that you can buy the ring only on ebay. Has any one fitted one, what sort of a job is it ? Cheers

2.3 Galaxy Loss Of Power

I need to replace the control unit on my Mk1 2.3, the one under the front passenger seat, the one that gets wet. Does anybody know, if I buy a replacement do I have to take it to Frauds to get it "programmed" ? I had heard that that's the case. How much do they charge for the service ? Cheers Chevron169

Yep mine used to do the same. After splashing a bit of car washing mixture on the valve stem it was clear that problem lies with seating of the rubber stem that holds the valve in the hole in the alloy wheel. I always resolved to get the whole stems replaced when I next changed any of the tyres but always forget. Over the years as more dirt and general detritous has built up inside the wheel and round the base of the rubber stem the problem has got less & less, still have to check them and blow them up but not nearly as often !

2.3 Ghia X 98 Intermittent Loss Of Power
chevron169 replied to swanny1970's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry didn't see this post at the time, if you've not managed to sort it yet here's my tale. I had exactly the same problem with my car, it took me 6 years of replacing bits and tests etc before I found the answer : Find the wire that runs from the lambda sensor up into the engine bay. The lamda sensor is just backwards of the the cover under the engine. It is a big nut on the exhaust pipe itself with a wire coming off it. It is hard wired at this end but at the other end of the cable, up in the engine bay, there is a plug into the rest of the loom that can come apart. Mine hardly moved when I pressed it together but it was enough to completely cure a problem which even Fords could not find the answer to..........................................surprisingly. The plug's quite hard to reach from the top but that's where you need to be after tracing it back from undreneath the car. You'll need to do this to identify the plug first. Hope you are succesful ! -
Does anyone know a good website where I can buy a repacement drivers side electric window switch please ?

Repair/reset Of Black Box Control Unit
chevron169 replied to chevron169's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
OK Thanks wolfie. My symptons are: Central Locking won't respond properly, interior lights don't come on automatically, elec windows don't respond properly. I can't reset the key plip to the car, have resorted to removing the fuse for the central locking but have to replace it to open the tail gate, what a pain ! Does it sound as though your solution would work ? How could I get the info ? -
I've suffered the traditional gal owners flood. Blocked drains, footwell swimming pool, control box under passenger seat goes mad and doesn't recover. I noticed on ebay a few weeks ago that someone was trying to sell info on what sounded like how to reset the control box however the ad disappeared very quickly. Does anybody know how to do this ? I remember reading the feedback at the time and it sounded like it worked for several buyers.

95 Galaxy Not Running Smoothly
chevron169 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
hi many thanks but what is a lamda sensor and where is it ta again It's a sensor that's screwed into the exhaust and measures the oxygen content of the exhaust gases then feeds this info back to the ECU. To find it run the front of the car up on ramps, crawl under the car you'll see a cut out in the engine cover towards the rear and the exhaust pipe. The lamda is round here it'll have a wire coming of it. Trace the wire back up into the engine bay towards the front of the car and you'll find a plug connection, this is the one that can come apart slightly. Squeeze it together. Costs Nothing ! -

Worth checking that the plug at the end of the wire from the from the lamda sensor is properly located ie. press the two halves of the plug together, this worked wonders for me. It hardly moved when I checked mine but it cured a problem I'd had for 5 years ! -
New Post Total Loss Of Power
chevron169 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had a similar problem with my 2.3. In the end, and got I the answer from this site, I checked the plug connecting the Lamda sensor to the rest of the loom. Find the Lamda on your exhaust, you can see it through a cut out in the pan under the engine, trace the wire back up towards the front of the vehicle for about a foot. You'll see a black plug. Check that the two parts are firmly pushed together, mine weren't ! I'd spent hundreds at Frauds and fitted a new cat, all to no avail, it was simply that the two halves of the plug had become slightly seperated. -
I had mine replaced for about

Hesitation/misfire At Low Revs

Mine's 2.3 petrol with hesitation problems. Cured by checking the plug that connects the lamda sensor into the main wiring. It just needed pushing together properly! -
Picture Of A New Cv Joint With Abs Ring

That's really useful for future reference, thanks !! -
Just interested to know how many miles I might reasonably expect out of a clutch on a 2.3 ? Mine's done 100k on original ! How long have I got before I need to remortgage ?
-
I've had noises also. There have been 2 sources on mine:- 1) Door mirror - mine has a non original cowling on the back of the unit which doesn't quite fit as well as the original and produces an annoying whistle. 2) Noisy belt tensioners - this noise has always been quite metallic and tends to come and go. Had for this for many many k's. The belt it'self may also be slipping of course. You'll be able to hear these clearly from under the bonnet from the left of the engine but don't try at 40 mph. Seriously, my screechings from this area only happen at idle or low speed then disappear when you've gathered speed or when the engine's warm so may not be this.

Fuel Consumption Over Burnt Fuel
chevron169 replied to shelbournes's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have the 2.3 so set up may not be exactly the same but I've had hesitating /LOP problems almost since day 1 and I've had the car 5 years! She's been in and out of Frauds and independents as well, none of whom have diagnosed the problem but I think I've found the answer thanks to comments I've seen elsewhere on this site. I checked the connection (the plug end) of the Lamda sensor. The comment I read elsewhere said they found corrosion on the pins etc. I've not had time to pull the plug apart but I did find that the two ends had come apart slightly. It's a bit difficult to get to so all I had time to do was to push firmly together and spray WD. I'm a bit reluctant to say that it's sorted the problem (after 5 years and -
In Line Fuel Filters ?
chevron169 replied to chevron169's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The story was that he got sick of his gal running poorly and sold it for a song to someone he knew who changed the fuel lines and brought the thing back to life ! The subject came up because I was banging on about mine running power losses and hesitating. The possible solution that I'm going to try next (from elsewhere on the site) is to have a look at the connection to the lamda sensor on the exhaust for signs of corrosion. I should say that over the 5 years I've had the car it's been in and out of Frauds and indepedents none of whom have ever found any reason for the poor perfomance. I've changed the MAF, petrol filter (cannister type) etc etc and nothing has ever made any difference. I'll report back. -
A friend of mine (ex V6 owner) has told me that there are filters actually inside the fuel lines on petrol gals. Fag end type things he says. Does anyone know if this is true or not ? I can't find anything on the TIS disc or the Haynes book.

Agree with Rich. Mine is also 2.3 with 99k miles '97. CC has been good never had regas etc. Occasionally smells a bit, occasionally heats when turned off but usually returns to normal when flicked on and off quickly !

There is a red and a blue button on the right hand side of the panel that controls the heater/air con temp in my 2.3 Ghia X. These used to illuminate. Does any one know if there's anyway of fixing the lack of light. I know it's trivial compared to some problems I've seen on the site but I'd still like to know if there's an answer. Cheers

Ir Remote Key Programming
chevron169 replied to Vince's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This is what I wrote down when I managed to do this myself about 6 months ago:- "Hold key in lock, turn to unlock 3 x, this illuminates red light in driver's door. Press and hold unlock on key and press lock 3 x to get light in driver's door flashing again" Job done, (hopefully).
