Hi all, A few weeks back my wife returned home in our 2.0 TDCI MkIII after a 30 mile drive with no issues. I got in the car to use it 5 minutes later, started the engine no problem, it was idling fine, I was putting my seatbelt on and the engine suddenly cut out. I tried to restart it but it wouldn't. It was cranking absolutely fine so I was certain it was not a battery issue, it just wouldn't start. I called the RAC and they arranged for a guy to come out to me. Whilst I was waiting I tried again and it started, but again it ran for 15 seconds or so and died. In my opinion it's related to the fuel supply. The RAC man thought it might be the battery (it wasn't though, as it was cranking fine) so he used a jump starter on it and it did eventually start, but I think this was a coincidence. Regardless, I purchased and fitted a brand new battery about a week ago and since that time it has been ok, until a couple of days ago when it happened again. A few more tries and we got it started but this morning it happened again and will not restart. I've looked at the fuel filter and I can see that there is no diesel coming through the fuel line after the filter. There is a small quantity of diesel further along the tube but there is more air in there than diesel. So I'm guessing that the fuel pump has failed, or maybe it's not activating because there's some other fault. I've read that a camshaft position sensor can cause this issue, do you think that might be the cause? I've not yet connected an OBD2 reader to it or called the RAC again. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, please! Thanks, B@rnstormer

Roof Leak, Water Pouring In, Panoramic Roof
B@rnstormer replied to B@rnstormer's topic in MKIII Technical section
Hi all, Well I've still got the problem with the water leaking. I can see it's leaking at the top of the windscreen above the mirror, if I take out the panel with the interior lights etc I can see daylight coming through a hole. I slid a long cable tie up through the hole and it poked out the top of the car between the windscreen glass and the bodywork. So this is quite obviously where it's coming in. I suspect that the previous owner had the windscreen replaced at some point and whoever did the work didn't seal it properly. In heavy rain, if I'm on the slightest slope, water is now literally gushing in (filling a large McDonalds soft drink cup in a few minutes). The car absolutely stinks inside and the footwells on both sides are sodden. I've been running a dehumidifier in the car overnight to try to dry it out a bit. The seats are getting wet and water's getting into the centre console/radio etc. I tried to fill the hole with silicone sealant but I can't get it far down enough into the gap from outside the car to seal it. Anybody had a windscreen refitted/replaced in a Galaxy? How much money would I be looking at paying? If it gets broken by a stone or something it'll be £80 as it's covered by our insurance but I think a new screen would be several hundred if I just bought it outright? Any suggestions much appreciated please, as it's getting a bit desperate. Thanks, B@rnstormer -

There are aluminium rails down both sides of the car which are presumably what roof bars will lock into. They are open from end to end. -

I sent an email about the recalls to the local Ford dealership and I got the following response: "Hello Mr Xxxx, I have just checked any outstanding recalls on your Ford Galaxy an there is not any recalls currently open on the vehicle, if a recall becomes active on your vehicle Ford Motor Company will send you a letter informing you. Any Other Questions Just Ask. Kind Regards Dan Xxxx Service Advisor Xxxx Ford" It's still leaking and is worse than ever, at the moment. -
External Door Trim Peeling Off - How To Refit?
B@rnstormer replied to B@rnstormer's topic in MKIII Technical section
I pulled the whole thing off today, before it came off on it's own and hit somebody or their car. I'll probably just epoxy it back on. -

Hi Gregers, I'm not sure as we've only had it a year and a bit. Is there some way for me to check whether or not it was ever recalled? Can Ford tell me? And if it had missed something, would I still be able to get it sorted by Ford? Cheers -

Hello all, Our MKIII Galaxy has quite a major water leak through the roof under certain conditions. It's usually if it's raining and we're parked/stopped on a downhill slope. It seems to come in somewhere above the rear-view mirror, and drips down onto the centre console. I can't see exactly where it's coming in but we have the panoramic roof so presumably there are more places where it could be leaking. Is this something that's common to the MKIII's or those with the glass roofs? Thanks!

External Door Trim Peeling Off - How To Refit?
B@rnstormer posted a topic in MKIII Technical section
Hello all, The external plastic trim strip on the rear driver's side door of our 06 plate MkIII has started to peel off, beginning at the edge of the door where the hinges are. I don't know what happened but I'm guessing something got caught on it and pulled it off slightly. It was sticking out enough that when the back door was opened the strip caught on the front door and now it's been peeled back around 4 or 5 inches. It looks like it's stuck on with a couple of strips of sticky-backed foam. I've tried pressing it back down but it doesn't stick for long so presumably the adhesive strips have got dirty. Should I just glue it down with epoxy or something like that? Is there something better I could use? The strip's not damaged so I don't want to have to replace the whole thing if I can get away with it (replacement from Ford is part number 1592237 I believe, about £20 +vat plus painting), but if I do buy a new one does anybody know if it comes with the sticky strips to stick it to the car? Thanks -
If you use the shaft from a 115/130 engine, it'll be too short by about an inch. From the splined end of the shaft upto and including the bearing and mounting bracket the 2 shafts are identical as far as I can tell, put side by side. The only part that seems different is the bit beyond the bearing that bolts onto the outer drive shaft (in my picture it's the bit to the left of the mounting bracket). One idea I had (but never got to try) was to have my engineer brother produce for me a circular metal spacer the correct thickness to make up the difference in length between the correct and incorrect driveshafts, filling the gap between the intermediate and outer shafts. Basically a steel doughnut with 6 holes drilled through it, and 6 longer than standard bolts to go through the extra material. This would have saved me about £300.

Here's a link to a picture I put together some time ago, showing the difference between the shaft most Galaxy owners will need and the shaft you'll need if you've got the 90PS engine https://flic.kr/p/gKigU8. All the breakers were telling me that I needed the shorter of the 2 shafts (see picture), several assured me they had the right bit then sold me the shorter of the 2 shafts (115/130bhp) which was wrong. So maybe be a little bit cautious of those who say they've got the bit you need because there's a chance they don't know and understand that there's any difference between the various bits. In the end, I couldn't get the part from anywhere else other than Ford for bonkers money, and within 6 months the car was scrapped anyway.

Hello, Few days ago the brake warning light started flashing (only sometimes) and beeping at me. The red warning light/handbrake warning light. I checked the brake fluid level and it was at minimum. I've topped it up this morning and thought that would sort it and in a way it did, no light and no beeping, but I've noticed something else. When driving along, if I brake, everything works fine. If I break again within the next few seconds, it still works but it feels a bit weaker. If I brake again, it's as though I've lost brake servo assistance and I have to press the pedal very hard to slow down. If I drive along for a while the brakes go back to normal but when I brake again a couple of times (if within the space of a few seconds) I lose servo power again. Basically put, if I pump the brakes a few times I lose servo power. I can't see a brake fluid leak anywhere. I've observed the vacuum line from the brake servo to the vacuum pump (not in great detail at this stage) and it seems to be quite hard if that makes sense, it's a rigid plastic pipe rather than a flexible rubber one, does this sound normal? It goes behind some kind of heat-shield on the bulkhead so it's hard to inspect, then connects to the vacuum pump directly. There's no vacuum reservoir (the round black ball I've seen in pictures and in the Haynes manual). I'm thinking along the lines of the vacuum pump, the servo or the vacuum tube being the cause of the problem. Any experts here who can suggest what I should try first? Thanks, B@rnstormer
