  1. Hi Moved around known working fuses to number 19 and 12 but sadly no success. Any idea where the control unit is please as it's not under the passenger seat? MK1 Zetec 2001 X Reg 1-9tdi
  2. Hi - yes the mileage display does disappear and the trip resets. Will check this tomorrow. Fingers crossed it is the fuse
  3. Hi all Firstly thanks for the responses. I've checked the cabling and although there is some wear and tear I'm leaning towards the fuse or the control unit for the central locking. Having checked the handbook I'm confused on which fuse number would be linked to the central locking plus should it not be the fuse where the control unity is as it is not under the passenger seat. Hopefully you guys and gals could advise Much apprecated MK1 Zetec 2001 X Reg 1-9tdi
  4. Thanks All In your experience would I be right to suggest I target the drivers door and the boot lid initially as these have the most use and wear or is it as likely the fault sits in the other 3 doors. I'm on holiday in west wales so have little scope for soldering etc plus would be a novice at this anyway.
  5. Hi all Thanks for the replies. Got my Gaitors and Gaiters mixed up. Does anyone know which wire / s would create such a failing in the central locking. I can lock the passenger and rear doors by pushing in the inside door handles and the drivers door with the key but the boot will not lock so the car is a bit vunerble. Any help on the wiring colour and location would be really appreciated Paul
  6. Hi all It's been 8 months since this site help me resolve a number of issues creating by a broken earth wire inside the boot gaitor. I've another fault which hopefully someone has come across before and has a fix for. My central locking has stopped working when using the key in the front doors and boot. Also noted that the front windows to not close / open when the key is kept turned. Plus Alarm light on drivers door does not flash. Thought this may have been linked to the wires in thenboot gaitor again. Found one Red and white wire snapped and reconnected this but still the above failing. Any thoughts anyone please. 7. Many thanks Unfortunately i've no experience with finding shorts and or soldering so I'll need to seek someone who can. There's an instrument cluster on ebay for £40 + P&P which may seem a best alernative for me though does anyone know if the cluster holders the mileometer reading or is the mileage total fed from outside the cluster so you can replace the cluster and the mileage reading is the same? Thanks
  8. Hi Initially had a couple of blown bulbs behind the speedo so searched site and followed instructions to remove display and purchased replacement bulbs Thought I'd replace all bulbs to future proof. Connected panel up and switched on - all display fully illuminated. Within seconds saw smoke coming from the centre top of the panel. Switched off and checked all bulb connections. Reconnected and tried again. All working with no smoke though right hand indicator display doesn't work. Switched working bulds and buld holders around and stll no illumination on the right indicator though actual indicators on car work fine. Seems the board may have shorted. Can this board be replaced or is the instrumnent panel a sealed unit. Any thoughts and assistance would be most appreciated. Mk 1 2001 1.9tdi
  9. Hi all and a happy new year when it arrives. Found a brown colour cable cut in half. Have reconnected and all good. This site is worth it's weight in virtual gold!!!!!!! BTW SSS is Seven Seater Sally named by the kids 10 years ago. 160K later this is really only the 1st unexpected problem outside normal wear and tear I've had so here's to the next 10 years. Cheers and thanks
  10. Hi Yes appears issue is with wiring on right hand side of boot as have moved wiring around and problem fixed. But on insulating cracked / chipped wiring with tape problem is back so more fiddling needed. Has anyone knowledge of what these wires in these looms are connect to as then I can concentrate on the failing areas. Many Thanks
  11. Many thanks, I'll check once the rains stop!!!! What I forgot to mention was also the the rear wiper when activated only moved an inch or so and now doesn't move at all.
  12. Hi all I discovered the passenger footwell flooded and hopefully have found the cause (thanks to this site) to be a disconnected water pipe but now have the following electrical issues. High Light Break light does not come on when breaking. High Light Break light when opening boot flashes on and off and you hear the central locking system operating (cycling) when pulling on the boot lid handle. When starting the engine the dashboard illimuinates for approx 7 seconds and the front fog light indicator lights up and stays on. When Breaking the dashboard illiminates and the front fog light indicator iluminates with a brighter intensity. High Break Light comes on when putting into reverse gear. I'm presuming as the cabling adjacent to the disconnected water pipe was soaking as was the well under the passenger seat that this was the cause but since drying these out the issues have remained. Here's hoping some one has come across these issues. Mk 1 2001 (x) 1.9tdi Cheers
