  1. Hi, I've read many any of the posts and info on the aux heater issues can anyone give me some advice. I have a MKII with D5WZ heater. Sometimes it fires up OK. VCDS shows the temp getting to 315 and the car warms up - all OK. Other times the car disappears in fog! but will then warm up. I have previously changed the glow plug, I think the temp sensor seems OK. VCDS on 03 and 04 shows the blower off and the pump off. I only have the lite version so can't force these on. Usually get the codes 01414 (combustion air blower signal outside specifications) and 01409. Can anybody give me any pointers please? Thanks Garry
  2. Hi - I agree this is a life saver. Fault was of my own making. Been sorting out another fault and had the fuse box lid off. My fault fixed and several days later noticed the wipers weren't working. Well as above back wiper worked when stork pulled forwad for washers. Ocassionally the fornt wiper also worked once so wasn't looking for fuse issue. Then I read this....I checked for fuse 33...it wasn't in. Use another 10A fuse in its place and away they went. I then found a "spare" fuse in the tray under the fuse box. Somehow in my other work I'd dislodged fuse 33. I have no idea how! Still fuse in and happy days. Top post above! Thanks! Garry
  3. Finally sorted. I think I've learnt a good lesson here. I had previously relied on my meter to beep indicating that a connection was good. As note above there was a suggestion that I'd got a partially broken wire. I carried on checking all sorts of stuff, leading abck to the switch. The switch was my 1st thing to check. The meter beeps when the switch operated so I moved on. On closer inspection it was reading 30 Ohms - much higher than a bulb. This was the almost broken connection, not the wiring after all. I used an old toggle switch to make a temp solution. All worked well. Now replaced the switch properly. All working well!!!!! A switch not quite making a proper contact. Sealed switch so can't see what has happened or clean the contacts. Happy with the result though. I will check readings in future not just listen to that beep! Thanks for the thoughts and help above. Garry
  4. Thanks SilverBeast, I think you right with the not quite broken wire. The issue was intermitant but is beginning to seem more permanent. I have just tried the bulb idea with the multi plug in the rear disconnected. Still the same 12V then nothing when a bulb is connected. I guess this rules out the tailgate wiring but leaves wiring from the switch to the rear of the car. Next I think I'll get the battery and battery tray back out and connect as close to the switch as possible and try to narrow it down that way. I will get a bulb to light! Thanks for your thoughts. Garry
  5. Hi, Has anybody got any good ideas as my revers lights aren't working. I read lots of info on the forum but not got a fix as yet, I'm now going mad. I have tried the switch - MkII so removed battery tray - switch is working OK. I have looked at the wiring in the connections by the rubber boot at the top of the door - not conclusive but all looks OK. The parking sensors don't automatical switch on when reverse is selected unless... I tried disconnecting a plug in the boot storage area and the parking sensors automatically activate. So followed on with this thought and have got to the stage where the parking sensors activate when reverse is selected if the reverse light wiring circuit isn't complete. If I remove only the bulbs the sensors activate. With the bulbs removed I get 12V on the bulb contacts when reverse gear is selected. This looks to be good but when the bulbs are put in....nothing and the parking sensors don't activate. The voltage across the bulb is only 0.1V. The 0.1V disappears when reverse gear is deselected. I have swapped the bulbs out but now can't think of anything else to check. Has anybody got any ideas.....please. Garry
  6. Hi, Can anybody let me know exactly where the reverse light switch is onthe gear box. I have removed the battery traybut not sure where the switch is. Thanks Garry
  7. acecard, bigdave982, Thanks for your replies - I've looked at fuses 31 & 32 - they are OK. After reading the manual I decided to look at a few other fuses, all were OK. There was a fuse that was slightly out of the socket but I'm sure in was still making the connection. After a few minutes I decided to look at the manual again and was suprised to see the computer display working fine. I guess my fault finding techniques need some refreshing! I don't know what the issue actually was other than playing with the fuses seems to have resolved the issue. Perhaps removing and replacing 1 of the fuses that was OK has reset the computer. Also noticed that whilst the display was off the door open warning tone didn't work (this may have been a good thing). Thanks for the replies - Issue resolved. (Sorry I didn't let you know which model I've got - 1.9tdi Ghia x 2004). Garry
  8. Hi - can anybody offer any ideas on this. The trip computer which has been working fine has lost the entire display. Is this control by a fuse? or is it more likely to be a wiring issue? Thanks Garry
