Sounds like the same that happened to me turned out to be coil pack mechanic friend sussed it out quite quickly,just pulled spark plug lead off touched to metal with spark plug in it said straight way it was sparking but no where near as much as it should be said think its coil pack,and what had happened was that water had got on to the coil pack and caused it to arc on to the car therefore not pushing enough power to make the spark good enough to start the engine,quick spray with good old wd40 left 5 seconds and car started.Got a new coil pack brand new ebay for £22 delivered,as he said it would probably do it again at some point so worth getting a new one.He also advised me when i do put the new one on to wrap it in a plastic bag and zip tie it round the coil pack and this will stop any problem relating to if the coil pack got damp again.Hopefully its the same case for you.Read my post here and what people said http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=22029

Well went to my local vw dealer got a new relay 30 but hasnt made any difference car still wont start,will try some other things later but if you have anymore ideas please feel free to tell me many thanks for the responses so far.

Have you tried using another key? if you have one. Yes have used both my key and my wifes key we can unlock the car alright and it turns the flashing alarm off when we do so but when we try crank the engine it lights up or flashes.Might even be that the battery is about dead from trying to crank it so many times that it is doing the led light for all i know.Have a friend coming up with some jump leads in a bit to try and give it a bit more life and see what happens then.

Hi all hopeing someone can please help me on this Car is a 1996 Petrol sharan 2.0 carat Problem started friday morning car just turning over but doesnt sound like it firing also when turning over led in drivers door either flashes or stays on permanent have tried wiggling the relay 30 this was easier to get to than i looked through the faqs i assume this is because of it being an older model or am i missing something? also disconnected the battery and then tried it again but still no joy im a bit limited to what i can do as i suffer from a disease called ankylosing spondylitis which is my spine so cant do a terrible amount.Have trawled through the topics and have tried bits and bobs but no joy.If anyone can help or advise will be really chuffed thanks for looking at my problem.

Oh well had to get the aa out but as i was waiting for them i noticed split in breather pipe that comes off the top of rocker cover,showed aa bloke it but he not convinced its that the problem,he taped it up put it back on car and car was still doing it,said he thought fuelling problem told us to try drive it up home and he would follow,drove it back home and problem seems to be gone,and been fine since,any ideas where i can get a replacement breather hose from?? Obviously i know vw place i will get one.

Car is 1996 P reg 2.0 Petrol Sharan,had this problem bout a week ago and it cleared now its back,car turns over but sounds like not firing will eventually start but once it has is very lumpy and misfiring,last time this happened it just cleared eventually after about 20 mins running.Now mrs has phoned me this morning saying it doing exactly the same on her way to work and that bad she has had to leave it in a car park,and walk the rest of the way.Any advice and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.Will see about rying to fetch the car later if all else fails a call to the aa will be on the cards.

Well it was wires burnt out and had melted a fuse that's tucked up right out of the way which im sure i never would of found total cost for fixing

Well have tried everything i can think to try and still not working so have had to take the plunge and get it booked in at my garage i usually use,will let you know what it exactly was and the cost when it gets fixed.

Already checked all the fuses they are all ok,just didnt know if any of the relays related to the heater,thanks for the reply.

Nick the identical one out of your rear heater :lol: Worry about the rear seat passengers later . How the heck do you get to the rear one anyway??? UPDATE - So far went scrap yard got identical heater resistor (hedgehog) didnt make no difference still not working,got another fan still didnt make it work and another climate control unit still didnt make no difference,any other ideas as we cant use the car at all especially with the weather the way it is at the minute,is there a relay that relates to the heater at all? When it stopped working we heard a click then electrical burning smell any more ideas and help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hi there been a while since i posted i have a 1996 vw sharan petrol with climate control yesterday the fan stopped working there was a click noise then an electrical smell and hasnt worked since i am led to believe it is the resistor pack behind the glovebox or as i have heard called the hedgehog will another vw model number work or a ford one as i have just rang vw and they want
