  1. Thanks for your response, it was the ford dealership who diagnosed replacement turbo required, the symptoms (5k miles ago) is the 'police siren ' like noise from engine when accelerating, sounds like a police siren in the distance. however no loss of power or any other symptoms, noise is noticeable but not when radio is on!...what do you think?
  2. I have been advised that my 2.0l TDCi 08 plate galaxy needs a new turbo at a cost of £1300. After posting on this website I enquired around for a reconditioned turbo as a cheaper option. My local garage then informed me that as my cars turbo was a 'variable vein' turbo, I could not use a reconditioned turbo. Can anyone please advise whether they are right and if so why? In addition, I have now driven 5k miles (current mileage 55k) since the first signs / noise from engine indicating turbo trouble...am I just lucky, or can these cars go on for a while before actually needing the turbo changing?
  3. Thanks Forumguru, I'll do that
  4. My Diesal 2ltr galaxy has only done 50k, I take it to my local Ford main dealer as it is making a 'whistling ' noise on acceleration, they tell me it needs a whole new turbo unit at £1350 ! This is alot of money for me and I am annoyed as the car is only 4 years old. My question is, Does the car really need a whole new turbo unit, or is there possibly a chance that it only needs a replacement of 'part' of the turbo unit at a lower cost, but the main dealer just couldn't be bothered to check this? opinions please!...also, Is a 'turbo unit' something you could get from a scrap yard and get fitted for less money?
  5. I have a 2 litre 08 plate diesel tdci galaxy. It has done 50k miles. Whilst driving it around France recently, I kept hearing a sound like a police or ambulance siren in the distance. I then realised it was the car making the noise. The noise gets louder or quieter depending on whether I am accelerating or not. I took the car to our local garage, who simply said they did not know what the noise was . the car seems to be running fine generally. can anyone please help with a diagnosis? thank you.
