Should a normal gearbox selector mechanism, have play in it in the up and down direction. I'm having no issues apart from a clunking vibrating noise that I can't find the source of yet and whilst pulling things today noticed that if I grab the selector arm I can jig it up and down approx 5mm. Is this normal?

Any advice on which tyres are the best for my 08 zetec 2.0 tdci . I've tried a few types but none last very long at all.

Handbrake stuck on yesterday! Turns out to be the small wire attached to the push button release has snapped at the bottom end. Can you buy a replacement wire or is it the expensive option of the whole handbrake unit. 42k miles, hasn't lasted long!
