  4. Hello folks. Well my new clutch is in and working and to be honest is was not as difficult as I had read about. So that is my 4 successful clutch change. How ever when I was removing the gear selector cable I had noticed that the plastic connector that connects to a ball joint pop of a bit to easy. Where as the other one was hard to prise off. Anyway continuing on with replacing the clutch and putting it all back together again. The clutch was a bit soft but changed gear and worked fine.i drove the car to end of road a couple of time and I was happy with everything. How ever after driving a bit more of a journey when returning home. It was obvious there was a problem no power in what I thought was 1 st gear so managed to limp the car home with riding the clutch and high revs. That's when the penny drop and I checked the gear selector cable and noticed it had popped off. So clearly this is what had happened the first time for me to think the clutch was gone. But the clutch was on its way out so I would of had to of done it soon. So check gear selector cables first to see if they have disconnected first before going for the clutch change
  5. . Hello big jeez and many thank for your reply. I striped out the battery and trim also starting motor yesterday. Today I am going for the gearbox so wish me luck. Ps can you tell me if the mk1 are dual mass flywheel or single. Many thanks
  6. Hello I am going to replace my clutch on what I think is a mk1 1.9 tdi x reg. but I am a little confused as to weather or not it has a dual mass flywheel or single. I have read several post and I feel confident in doing the job. If it has a dual mass flywheel can I put in a single mass flywheel as this will cut the cost down. Also does the gearbox really have to come right out. I ask this because I changed a clutch on a mondeo and managed to separate gearbox just enough to replace clutch plate
