Whats That Noise ?
Pepper Red replied to Pepper Red's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi They are original Ford alloys that came fitted on the car, I only had the noise when I put steels on the front so it could be that as the steel's are made of a different and harder metal they amplify more of the sound and so it was noticeable to me. The low rumble was not noticeable to any one else in the car but obvious to me as as I have driven this car for five years and know all the sound's it usually makes. Thanks -

Hi Guys I had the MOT done on my 2003 Galaxy TDI on 17th May and the only advisory's were front tires close to legal limit which I suspected any way, and front discs worn. I put two tires on with steel wheels which I had in the shed ready to go as I want to refurbish the alloys my self and took the car for a drive to check all was ok. I noticed that between 20 and 30 MPH whilst accelerating or slowing down there is a low bearing type whine coming from the front of the car but only in drive not in neutral. Its not a loud noise but I cant figure out what it is. Its booked in on Friday 26th for the brakes so I would like to explain to them what I am hearing and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My only concern is that its the turbo as I have read forums where the smoke test high revving can damage an older engine. Just to add that from cold it only does it after a few miles and I took it for a gentle run today up to sixty and it pulls ok with no smoke that I can see. Thanks

Hi Guys Help please. There seems to be confusion regarding the tyre pressures on the Galaxy with 215/55 R 16 tyres and I have seen many comments on here. My Ford hand book states 41 front / 38 rear up to three persons ( normal load ) and 44 front / 47 rear with more than three persons. I recently had a front puncture fixed and the tyre place asked what pressure I wanted so I said 42 as sometimes when you take the hose off some air is lost. The mechanic was amazed at this and said 38 was enough for a car as any more would effect the stopping distance in an emergency or bad weather, when I said that the tyres are reinforced and its a heavy vehicle he sort of said oh yeah. I usually run at 42 front 45 rear as if I carry people or items to full load it would mean going to a petrol station every time to put more air in or take some out and I cant see any one bothering to do that. If I am running at too high a pressure I will stand corrected but do any of you prefer different pressures ? Thanks

Mk 2 Galaxy Number Plate Lights
Pepper Red replied to Pepper Red's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi and thanks for the info I did go back to ECP and they replaced the broken one but as the build quality is not really great I ended up making one good one out of two and both lights are now working. It looks to me that when they are made the damage occurs when the bulbs are put in as the metal tags heed to be opened to take the bulb and in doing so the plastic holder is so easily fractured. Thanks -
Hi Guys I need to have a rant as both of the number plate lights on my 2003 Galaxy are in need of replacement which I discovered when changing a blown bulb and they fell apart in my hand. I got two new aftermarket holders from Euro car parts but the quality is really poor and one was already partly broken. Fords in Buckinghamshire where I live don't supply them any more so I am at a loss as to what to do. I cant believe that some thing as important as these lights (For MOT pass) are so badly made, and if I cant find a decent set that I would be faced at scrapping the vehicle? Any ideas please Thanks

Auxiliary Heater Which Fuse.?
Pepper Red replied to Pepper Red's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi and thanks very much for the info, now I know the switch is the way to go. -
Hi Guys Have had my MK 2 TDI 2003 for three years and never heard the Auxiliary heater come on except for the other day when ( like a lot of posts on here have said) I heard a noise like a jet engine and wondered what the hell it was.! It was a cold morning around 4 degrees and since then it comes on if its below 10 degrees and having read up on it on this site I now know how and when it should work. I had a Ford diagnostic done just before for another fault so maybe they cleared a previous fault on the heater which is why it's decided to work.? My question is what fuse can I pull to stop it working as on morning's where its around 7 or so degrees I don't actually need it on as I don't feel that cold and the trip I do to work is enough to get the engine hot.? Or could I replace the Temp sensor for the heater with a manual switch.? Or should I leave well alone.! In the Ford handbook it shows several fuses associated with the heater as follows: FUSE 3- 3AMP FUSE 9- 5AMP FUSE 12- 25AMP FUSE 19- 5AMP FUSE 27- 25AMP FUSE 33-10AMP Thank you in anticipation
