  1. Sorry for the delay, it was the main cable to the power distributor box. Replaced and all working fine. Thanks for the insight, yet again. Dave
  2. Thanks, checked both of these and a lot of others. Went again. Opened door manually and tried the ignition. The trip and mileage then went blank as though there is a short or would you know if the immobilizer does this. Was fine all morning so getting a bit frustrating as you can imagine.
  3. I had a bumb a few days ago and have now developed a intermitent electrical fault. My central locking stops working and no electrics at all when i turn the ignition. When it does work my trip and radio are reset as though the battery has been disconnected but then starts and runs fine. Any ideas? Regards Dave
  4. Can anyone advise, stripped out dash and at the point where I can access the matrix on my Mk2. Manual says to remove wiring loom and crash bar but looks like there is a flange with a screw top and bottom that would seperate the the matrix from the tubes going into the engine bay. Is this easier tahn stripping the rest of the car to bits. Regards Dave
  5. Well, its fixed. Basically disconnected both window switches, fuse blew again so ruled them out. Having checked those, the instrument cluster and the gear knob plate (don't know the correct term) bit thats has the PRND12.All that was left was the heater panel. Removed that, disconnected it , replaced the fuse and it was fine but to get to the back I removed the radio and found 2 wires where the cables were exposed. Taped them up, replaced the heater and all is working. Thanks again for taking the time to help. Moral of this story is if a fuse goes buy a pack of ten just to be on the safe side, I have 2 left!!!. Regards Dave
  6. Will check the window switches for illumination but windows, cl and everything else works ok (touch wood). Many thanks for your help, will keep you posted. Dave
  7. No idea how or why but the fuse to the instument cluste lights (no.28) blew. replaced it but blew as soon as I turned the lights on. I have removed and disonnected the cluster but still blew again. Its a 2002 Auto, checked the connection to the gear change and thats ok. Any ideas where the issue might be. Dave
  8. Well I seem to have fixed the problem. Changed the MAP (manfold air pressure) sensor and fuel filter along with manually pulling the turbo actuator in and out a few times. Only things is I cannot say which of these actually fixed the problem. I did have to get all the codes removed and reset but now seems to be working as mormal.
  9. Don't know if it helps I blew my switched live when fitting a Sony aftermarket so the switched and perm live (Red and yellow) were connected together. The switched wire has a small purple fuse 2.5 amp if I remember. Replaced that and connected correctly and all works fine. Dave
  10. Sorry should have been clearer it was a spares car parts shop (not secondhand). The MAF was a Bosch with the same codes as the old one. The chap in the shop confirmed it was the correct replacement part. Looking to strip the turbo down , clean it and replace but I am not a mechanic so may take some time. Any suggestions or watchouts about what I should be carefull of disconnecting. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Will keep you posted how it goes. Regards Dave
  11. Did you reset the errors after you changed the MAF etc? 1166 Bank1, Long Term Fuel Trim, Range 2 Rich Limit Exceeded Check the MAF was replaced with the correct type/part no. You didnt get it from fleabay did you? 1557 Charge Pressure Contr. Positive Deviation Either turbo vacuum control pipework leaking or turbo vane actuator sticking I did get the errors reset. The MAF was from a car spares center - Bosch replacement. Not sure what the 1166 error means Is the turbo vane actuator accessible and any idea if there is a quick test I can carry out. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Dave
  12. Can anyone advise. Have a 1.9 TDI Galaxy MK2 No power going uphill. AA man recons auto gear box is the problem. Error codes 1166 and 1557 come up. New MAF and cleaned EGR but no improvement. Was an intermitent fault but now constant. Dave
