Hi all, I had an idle knocking on my 2002 Galaxy 1.9 TDi, went away when the clutch was depressed, and seemed to exactly match a Youtube video of a tired dual mass flywheel. A noise on driving then developed over a few days, started as only low down then got worse, into a growl, very throttle dependent, but still went away above 3,000 rpm. Couldn't see any sign of exhaust leaks. I was pricing up clutches, flywheels, etc, but then it suddenly went - going up a hill in 3rd gear, no drive and lots of revs, I thought it had jumped out of gear, but it wouldn't drive in any gear. On the flat it will get enough drive to crawl forwards or backwards in 1st or reverse, if I'm really gentle engaging the clutch with no throttle, but try and use any power at all and it stops moving and rattles from the gearbox/clutch area... So I would guess a clutch/DMF and slave cylinder would be needed, but could the clutch fail like this? It's never slipped at all before. Does anyone have any other ideas (collapsed gearbox bearing maybe)? It's 150 miles away from my house so was going to get the bits together before heading up to start the job, just don't want to buy expensive new parts and then find they're not needed or too much else is broken and the best way forward would be an engine / box from ebay.... Thanks in advance for any info / opinions
