1St And 2Nd Gear Missing All Others Ok
Bill Button replied to Bill Button's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the replys checked the cables and the are all connected with the assembly they connect to moving freely, looks like the problem is a little deeper. I will update once the garage has had a look -
Lost 1st and 2nd gear today on my Mk2 galaxy. All other gears are fine inc reverse. No nasty noises when they disappeared, got the car home ok, any one else had this problem or could point me in the right direction for a fix. You can select the missing gears just nothing there when you lift the clutch Thanks Bill

Hi we'll this issue has been carrying on a bit now, here's the latest. Garage has said there is no clutch on the alternator but did free the ac clutch. Aux belt changed and tensioner still had this noise when moving the steering only when on idle. Took it back to the garage and showed them the problem! Week later (today) got the car back with another change of steering pump, still the same. So here's my thinking. I just put up with the new noise, or challenge the garage and get them to fit a original pump (not factored ) Any one want to comment? Thanks Bill

Hi Dave and Chris, thanks for the responses. Tried Dave's suggestion but made no difference the garage had it back on Saturday and are saying its the A/C pulley clutch not disengaging fully. Took it out for a spin today and not happy with it so have returned it to the garage.( had a work trip to Birmingham planned for Monday ) The Aux belt does not run smooth at all, lots of additional noise, Will let you all know the outcome Cheers Bill

Hi just had my steering pump changed as the bearings failed and a few other bits done to get me gal though the MOT, the garage said that the old pump was the original and that they had fitted a upgraded one. Since this pump was fitted, the steering is lumpy at low revs IE tick over, but when revs are above 1100. Steering is smooth as silk, any one else come across this. Cam belt kit was replaced at the same time, all other work was suspension related. My only worry is that the garage is going to say my steering rack has now failed. Thanks Bill

Rear Wiper Not Working
Bill Button replied to Bill Button's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Seatkid, Thanks and you are right just checked fuse 20 and guess what,, no fuse in position 20, the other day whilst returning home from a family trip my front wipers would not switch off, i pulled over and looked at the fuse box, decal and pulled a fuse , in my haste, must have placed it back in the wrong position, i have moved a 15 amp from position 26 to test and all working fine now. BTW your diagnosis is correct, another beer on Seatkids tab, keep up the good work Cheers Bill -
Rear Wiper Not Working
Bill Button replied to Bill Button's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry just looked at Seatkids drawing again, looks like I should have 12 volts provided via fuse 20 onto pin 4 of the motor plug, black and yellow wire can some one confirm I'm not going mad? Thanks -
Rear Wiper Not Working
Bill Button replied to Bill Button's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Alan and Seat Kid, thanks for the responses, Earth was good done a bit more testing with a wire direct to the battery negative, my Haynes manual suggest 4 wires, re re the diagram, Seat kid provided looks like there is a switch within the motor assembly ? Any ideas where the CJB is located ? also probably no a fuse issue as this feeds both front and rear wiper motors and the washer motor (which all work) Thanks again? Bill -
Hi looking for some direction with a rear wiper fault.motor not running at all, I have checked the usual, 1. Fuse No 24 (assuming this is correct as the operating manual and Haynes manual is conflicting) 2. wires in rear gator these all look good, no chaffing Etc. I have removed the tail gate card thanks to the FAQ and noticed the pipe to the washer was nearly off this had started to leak over the motor connector, dried this out and applied some good old WD40. still no luck yet. for info, every thing else works fine, front wipers and washer no issue and all lights work on the car. Re the rear motor assembly, the cable to this has 4 wires i put a meter on the motor plug, I used the brown as the earth and tested across other three wires, no voltage was found. I'm assuming one of these cables should have 12v on it to power the motor, intermittent option and washer is available on the column switch. If I knew which of the 4 wires need the 12v applied I could rule out the motor. Any help gratefully received. Thanks Bill

Mk2 Head Lamp Removal
Bill Button replied to Bill Button's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Chris Thanks for the quick reply, re the TORX screws I can only find 3 two at the top and one which need a long reach (got of eBay 7 quid) I did remove the 4 screws along the top of the radiator grill which did not seem to help much, seems there is some structure over the top of the lamps running across the front of the car, might try and loosen this off but I think it sort of wraps around the back of the lamps (difficult to explain in words) it -
Can any one shed some light on removal of Mk2 head lamps, I want to change my side lights bulbs and retrieve a side light bulb which is ratterling around in the unit (left by the previous owner), I have tried the little sliding flap in the wheel arch (had to remove the complete wheel arch cover as the door had jammed, but you need small hands and arms like Mr Tickle to have any chance I have been looking around the forum, and found that the units are held in with 3 TORX screws. I removed the screws and the head lap now is loose but wont come out easily, seems to be caught on the top lip of the bumper, and the wing, before I use some excessive force I though I might ask Thanks in advance Bill

found this post using the forum search Remove the trim along edge of passenger door opening (2 or 3 screws iirc) lift sodden wet carpet and sound deadening material look at the bunch of wires running along the edge, you should see a black plastic tube that has a joint this can become separated in cold weather due to water freezing, windscreen washer water bottle emptied itself in the car. Push the joint back together you should hear it click then place a small cable tie around it tight that will stop it coming off again : I will sort this out now. a tip always do a search :)

Hi I'm a newbie to this site after recently getting my very own Galaxy Mk2 03 Plate. (which I adore immensely) and thanks to all the contributors to this site, I have already fixed the drivers door window and rear passenger central locking fault (broken door wires) and fitted new wing mirrors (door card removal)using the great guides your members have made available, Thanks for this So my question, filled my washer bottle up at the weekend, using the car this morning got a strong whiff of washer fluid inside the car, traced the smell to the front passenger foot well, carpet was soaked. I'm wondering If the rear washer pipe runs up the passenger side of the car and may have sprung a leak? too dark to start taking a look now but any help to point me in the right direction gratefully received. I will update the forum with my findings either way :) Thanks Bill
