I have no intention to mislead anybody, and stand to gain nothing by doing so, therefore why would I exagerate? I am simply giving you some recently obtained comparitive figures. If the calculations of my trip computer are out, I have also included the indicated figures regulary obtained in the UK, which as you can see are not brilliant. I was also very surprised at the readouts, but then given the state of the roads I was on at the time (almost perfectly smooth & free flowing for hour after hour) and the longer distances you can cover without constantly reducing speed or stopping, this really is the case. BTW it is not an auto, but a 130PD 6 speed manual (I thought this was in my profile but it may not display). I had it serviced before the trip and ran the tyres at 43 PSI (17 inch rims with 225/45 tyres) as I had a heavier load than usual.

Just got back from a 2500 mile European tour and was astonished at what can be achieved over there compared to our small, poor quality, overcrowded motorways. Obviously on a warmed up engine and on the autobahns, I got an average 41-46mpg at close to 100mph in Germany. The super smooth, slightly downhill sections of Swiss motorways (with all the tunnels through the hills & mountains) with speed limits of about 60mph got me an incredible 60.1 mpg. These figures are not instantaneous but averages over long sections of motorway, whenever possible with cruise control set to the posted speed limit. BTW, back in the UK I normally get low 30's for urban and mid 40's on a steady motorway cruise.

Thanks Andrew T. I've read the procedures for unblocking the scuttle drains, but I honestly thought that the pollen filter was a seperate area of weakness (with regards to water ingress). So if I clear the scuttle drains first, the pollen filter can remain in situ whilst I wait for an improvement?

Pretty much as the title says. I've read lots of excellent descriptions about how to change and refit the pollen filter, but why EXACTLY do you get water ingress after having one changed? :rolleyes: If I follow the steps in one of the guides on here, how do I myself avoid fitting it incorrectly? Is there a tight seal to be made somewhere; do garages not seat the filter housing fully home; what should I be acutely aware of checking when putting it back? ;) Also, now my scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen has been disturbed, would it benefit form a line of silicone sealant across its top edge, as it seems to now sit a few mm off the surface of the windscreen? Any answers please?

I've had similar problems, but the smell was more like urine / ammonia. It also was the washer bottle, so after flushing out I dropped a sterilising tablet into it (the sort you get for sterilising baby bottles) - cost less than a pound from the chemist for a box that will last ages. Use the tablets sparingly and in a weak solution, otherwise you may stain or damage your paintwork (mine is fine and I've used them for some months now). Chris

I can't work out how to add a picture, can anyone help?

Only just got the bits from the dealer to fix this. After getting it sprayed and refitted, it's not really a function that I need on a vehicle, as I regularly clean the windows & all lights anyway in the winter. How do I go about disabling this? I've looked in the handbook and fusebox diagram, and I cannot see an independent fuse, so I guess it's on the windscreen wash wipe circuit? Any ideas as to how I could get this function disabled?

Thanks guys for the info. Exactly how does the cover attach to the jet spray device that pops up - if I locate the cover over the guidance holes and press it down, will it self engage with the jet whilst it is retracted? Is it worth adding a small amount of adhesive to stop it falling off again?

Hi everyone, I've been reading & searching the forum for a while now, but this is my first post. As a releatively new Alhambra diesel driver I hope to benefit in future from the cumulative knowledge of the group. My immediate query is that the cover has 'disappeared' from my N/S headlight washer overnight - anyone know how to refit a new one? I ask because the washer jets pop up out of the bumper when in use, but are otherwise retracted. I appreciate that the Galaxy may have a different mechanism, but any help or guidance is appreciated.
