Mk1 Galaxy 90Bhp Tdi - Died, Wont Start.
wez_tdi replied to wez_tdi's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the replies. Sorry this has taken a long time for me to get back to yous, lots of ups and downs in family life lately. I am going to look at this at the weekend. A friend has taken the timing belt cover off and said the belt is in good condition, its tight and no slipping damage (missing teeth etc) I will update yous with what I find. Much appreciated. -
Hi all, My dads had a Galaxy for years, the turbo died on it a short while ago and wiped the engine out... so its now gone. He has replaced it with another Ford Galaxy GhiaX with the old 1.9 TDi 90bhp engine (1Z/AHU)... he has had it 3 weeks, with no issues at all. It has been driving fine, but the other day he was on the motorway when he said there as an odd loud 'pop' sound, then a decrease in power. It chugged to a stop at the side of the road, and would only idle with his foot flat to the floor. Now it struggles to start and idle. We have changed the fuel filter, no difference, can suck through the fuel lines with no resistance so I don't think there is a blockage before the fuel injection pump, and the 'fuel solenoid' is clicking open and getting power. It will start and run ok on small squirts of 'easy start' into the intake, but really struggles under its own fuelling before cutting out. A friend has had a look and says the fuel pressure at the injector unions looks very low. Wiring to number 3 injector is intact... not sure how to test it though. My friend seems to think its the actual fuel injection pump? Or internal engine damage http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/puzzled.gif Any other ideas? or does anyone have a pump with the following numbers: 0 460 404 971 028 130 115 M Cheers Wez.

Hi all, Not been about for a while... Just though i'd update this, and say after a few years (and about 40k miles later) Betsy eventually died. My dad was using her, and I think the turbo oil seals went, he said it was sounding very chuggy and very smoky. So she's been parked up on his driveway in Derby and will be laid to rest soon. Such a shame as she's been a great vehicle for £500 - the only work she's needed is tyres and a few oil changes. Paintwork is looking a bit rough now, as my dad used her for a site vehicle for a year. Shes even been converted into a camper/dayvan, only has the two n/s rear seats in, the other has a full length bench with cupboards under it, leisure battery with split charge system, extra lighting in rear, sink with electric tap/pump, few 12v outlests from leisure battery, and even a gas grill & hob!! We are getting another soon... IF anyone knows of a cheap and cheerful tdi (90 or 110bhp) going for sale, please PM me, or reply. Cheers, Wez.

Hi all, I've got a MK1 Ghia X TDi (V-Reg), Had a bit of a fart on tonight, just thought i'd give yous a heads up... When I got the car, I got two keys, just a normal looking black one (no buttons for central locking) and a central locking one with two buttons. Both have operated the locks and started the car fine for as long as i've had it (girlfriend has the remote one, i just use the manual one in the locks) Tonight, I unlocked the car using my 'manual' key in the drivers lock, as it was busy unlocking, my son pulled the rear door handle before the door had unlocked properly, so his door re-locked itself, he sometimes does this lol!! I tried to open it from the inside, but it wouldnt (as if it was double locked / deadlocked?) So I got out, put my key back in the drivers door lock, and tried to lock then unlock the car again to open his door.... disaster struck! The whole car deadlocked itself! My other half was in the car and could not open any of the doors from inside, and to top it off, my key was stuck in the 'lock' position in the door, i could not turn the key in the lock, and could not pull the key from the lock. I got my g/f to pop bonnet from inside, tried to disconnect/reconnect battery to try a 'pop' central locking, but nothing. I got a lift home off a friend to get my gother halfs remote key from the house, that wouldn't unlock the car either, was just putting the interior lights on in the car when pressing unlock. The remote key wouldnt open the passenger side lock, but did open the boot with some key jiggling in the lock. In the end my mate forced the 'manual' key that was still in the drivers door back to the unlock position, there was some nasty noises from inside the door (metal creaking etc) but at least we got the key out. Once the key manual was out, the remote key fob started to work fine from the buttons. So we set off home. The remote key still works fine, but I think the door 'barrels' are now knackered, as my manual key and the remote wont even turn in the doors now, just the tailgate. Has anything simmilar happened to anyone?? ----- Question: My 'manual' key now only opens the tailgate. I'd also like a remote 2 button key like the one our lass has that still works fine. Is it possible to program a new 2 button key with the keys we have at the moment (they're not red master keys that i'm aware of) also, as my door locks seem to now be buggered, is it even possible? As i've read you have to turn the key in the lock 3 times... Any help appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi all, Got a MK1 Ghia X with an integrated baby/child booster seat, currently behind the passenger seat. Seat and seatbelt is fine in normal adult mode, but when the base part is lifted and the footrest exposed for our 6yr old (effectively a booster seat) we cant get access to the buckle (where the seat belt clicks in), as the raised cushion almost totally obscures it and makes it impossible to click in. Currently using his normal booster seat, but would be nice to use this one and not have to carry it from car to car. Am i missing something??

bit quiet in here aint it!! well - just peeled masking tape off - looks ok, nice shine straight out the little paint machine - should polish up a bit better. Just need to clean the window rubbers up a bit where the pound shop masking tape hasnt stuck properly lol I think if i had have prepped it properly it would have came out just about perfect... but it'll do me for a cheapo run about http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/IMAGE_263Medium.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/IMAGE_257Medium.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/IMAGE_255Medium.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/IMAGE_264Medium.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010001Medium-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010003Medium-2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010005Medium-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010004Medium-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010003Medium-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/P1010006Medium-1.jpg now just needs lowering, cool wheels, decent exhaust, maybe some ST door bottom stripes... :)

lovely examples... i'm looking for wheels myself, just dont wanna pay big money for whels on a
-
private plate - posh bugger lmao! looks VERY clean though - i'll keep an eye out for ya. What wheels are they? Audi?
-
twin JAVs would look cool, we'll get a pic of em together someday lol its actually drives very tight and pretty much faultless... just the previous owner used it as a 'get to work car' (worked at the car sales they sold it from) - so just got bare minimum servicing (timing belt, oil change and brakes) had been done, bodywork etc wasnt important to him, long as it got to work safely lol. oh its had an alternator and bottom arm recently too

pics not working, here they are again as I dont seem to be able to edit my previous post: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal6.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal5.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal4.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal9.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal10.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal3.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal7.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/Betsy%20Galaxy/gal8.jpg oh and thats not the reflection of the sky on the bonnet - its white/grey patchy and cracked spraycan paint!

very small world! to be honest I wasnt going to bid anywhere near that, but in the last few minutes my girlfrined said she'd go halfers on it with me, so it threw a little more cash into the pot. Looks terrible - drives fantastic! lol

wow, thought i was going crazy, replied to the other topic with same title in the "Questions about the Galaxy" section this morning lol...

Nice, Daytona yellow... the colour of a REAL ESCORT :P I've started my own topic mate

Well here she is... the pictures actually do it justice! The bonnet is very dented, and the tailgate is pushed in about 1.5" around the handle area and the rear washer has rusted through completely lol. Also the back bumper is split open in a few places and way out of shape. CLICK FOR BIGGER PICS http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal3.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal4.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal5.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal6.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal7.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal8.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal9.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/FordnetsFords/th_gal10.jpg I'm going to tidy it up a little (plenty of filler lmao!) and respray it, i'd keep it same colour but as you can see the passenger side has been poorly painted with cans at some point - so just going to do a colour change on it! Please bear in mind that it's going to be a 'quick' tidy up to make it respectable. I am not a mechanic or bodyshop dude by trade, I just like to tinker  If it was worth something, it'd be getting new panels and a propper respray... but for me, its filler, fibreglass and Rustoleum paint (basically smooth hammerite) through a fence painter lmao! A true 'Scrappage Scheme Survivor' lmao! Comments and cringes appreciated lol

Well i've had my MK1 1.9 Diesel Ghia X almost a week now! lol Bought it from a car dealers for

Hi, This usually happens to vehicles with disc brakes on the rear (happened to my mondeo ST24, dads range rover and my friends dads Audi A6) I've ben told the reason for it is because when you've been driving, the brake discs are obviously warm with use, when you apply the handbrake, the brake pads sit onto the disc and all is well. However once you've been parked up for a while, the brake disc cools back down, and as metal cools, it contracts. So the disc gets ever so slightly smaller - just enough to move away from the brake pad ever so slightly. If you're parked on a hill and have a large heavy vehicle... gravity will work its magic untill something gets in the way (like a tree) I always park my cars in gear anyway, as most of the vehicles i've had are cheap runabouts with poor handbrakes to start with lol! when on hills you should park with your wheel pointing in to the kerb to stop it rolling away. Hope you get it sorted

they look good, go well with the colour of the vehicle. Gonna get some for mine once my body mods & respray are done in a few weeks ;)

Roll Restrictor Bolt Snapped!
wez_tdi replied to wez_tdi's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Cobbled it back together for now  The nut and bolt that goes through the bush at the rear of the roll restrictor is the same thread as the one thats snapped in the front. However the one from the rear is way too long, and doesnt tighten up against the rubber bush once its all the way 'home' in the roll restrictor arm. BUT - if you use the nut that came off as a washer to take up the gap, it all fits up fine. This obviously left me with no nut/bolt holding the rear of the arm on, but a quick trip to B&Q for a 130mm long M12 bolt and nylock nut and job done. (£1.39) You can use a normal M12 as where it goes through the rear bush isnt threaded. I tried the M12 in the front, but the thread was much finer on the snapped one I took out. So if anyones stuck somewhere and can limp it to a DIY place - thats how to get home. Will order new nut, bolts ASAP - is the front rubber bush available seperately - look like its seen better days (although not split) Hope that makes sence -
more than the car is worth probably! lol

Roll Restrictor Bolt Snapped!
wez_tdi replied to wez_tdi's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
VW were no joy, gave them my engine code, said it could be one of two bolts in the system - as they dont stock them either, i'd have to order them both in, and not returnable if incorrect. One was £2.80, other was pennies under a fiver. Be Tues or wed before they'd get em in stock. Off to hunt about for summink simmilar over the weekend lol -
Roll Restrictor Bolt Snapped!
wez_tdi replied to wez_tdi's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just rang ford for the bolt... they cant find my reg number on the system (strange as insurance, hpi, and even euro car parts website finds it) anyway, they think the bolt I need is the front bolt for the torque restrictor arm. However - they say its not a UK stocked part, they can order it in, will take a few days, and cost £4.87... anybody bought the same part recently - just wanna make sure its the correct one before I pay for it (gotta pay for it before they'll order it in) Seen a post elsewhere on here where the person in question bought a new bolt for 70p from Ford... £4.87 is some inflation! lol cheers. -

Hi folks, kinda new here still. Reecntly (3 days ago) bought my MK1 Galaxy Ghia X TDi 110 for

Okay, just got my wiring issues and brake lights sorted, 40 miles later, I pull away from a roundabout (rather sharply) and - bang! Still drives but under acceleration there is major major vibration, but fine at cruising speeds. I instantly knew it was an engine/gearbox mounting gone. Got home, took under tray off, and theres about an inch bolt lying there, with a sheared end - which i guess is still in the front part of the 'roll restrictor' Tried to get the 19mm bolt out of the back bush to get the full part off the vehicle and see if I can get the rest of the bolt out, but I cant get enough purchase on the ratchet as i'm lying on the ground on my back... looks like i'm in for a fun weekend  shall I bother messing about with it, or just get a full new mount?

Possibly, but now have a bigger problem, just reared its head.... grr.
