Confused Prospective Galaxy Owner
steve.cafc replied to temper71's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Hello, I'm pretty sure the 1.9 tdi is belt driven. It's the petrol 2.0 and 2.3 that are chain driven. My 2002 Alhambra tdi is definitely belt driven as I've just changed it !!! Best Regards Steve. -
Smoking Rear Heater
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello all, I've had my metering pump looked at by a sparky at my workplace and he has told me that it is a magnetic diaphragm type of pump, and that it doesn't matter which way the wires go. He showed me it working with wires on both terminals, definitely works as it shot out loads of diesel. I know need to put the pump on the car and measure the output of it. You can't really service the pump as it's sealed, but un screw the unions at each end, which will reveal a small filter at one end and a spring and ball bearing. Both seemed ok. Best Regards.Steve -
Smoking Rear Heater

Hello Yes I stripped the heater totally. All parts left in thinners overnight then wire brushed all the Internal. They were gleaming, even the combustion chamber tube thing. Then everything was blown through with an air line. Yes I can confirm that I did pull the combustion chamber out of the water jacket thing. I've had the metering pump off and the filter looks fine, only thing is, I pulled the wires off and didn't mark them. The pump terminals don't have a plus or minus, doe's it matter which way round the wires go ? I know its a weird pulse pump thing ? Many Thanks Steve -
Smoking Rear Heater
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello chrispb12345, I let the car run for a good twenty minutes, Just belowed white smoke. Yes heater was whistling a good one. The inside of the exhaust pipe was cleaned with thinners the other week, when I stripped down the heater. The exhaust pipe and combustion chamber were totally cleaned. I have been in contact with a Webasto Heater retailer who does repair them, he says my next avenues are to check for under voltage at the heater, fuel pump internal filter, combustion air motor, combustion chamber/flametube. His exact words were "All these items can cause white smoke through poor fuel supply or motor underspeed causing poor fuel atomisation" I have taken the fuel metering pump off tonight, and I'll look at it tomorrow at work. I'll let you know my findings. Best Regards Steve. -
Smoking Rear Heater
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello All, Just put the heater back on the car, bypassed the temperature sensor on the Wiper linkage as was 15 degrees out, and guess what ? It's still smoking !, New glowplug, new glowplug gauge and new gaskets, combustion chamber cleaned. I have made progress though, four weeks ago my heater wasn't working at all. Now it's heating the water so quickly, but it's chucking out white smelly fumes. What else should I look at, are the white fumes overfueling or underfueling, Is the new glowplug getting hot enough ? Any ideas would be most welcome. Best Regards Steve. -

Smoking Rear Heater

Hello all, Sorry I haven't replied, I have just come in from taking the heater off again !! No Crispb123456 I didn't even look at the wire gauze thing as it looked clean, But in hindsight maybe I should have as the glow plug was really pitted and knackered. I'm going to buy a new gauze on Ebay, £18.95 though !!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280905819774?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1938wt_1186 If anyone is interested I bought my glow plug here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180962772179?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_969, Its the older style without the wires, But I wanted to swap like for like. If you intend separating the burner from the fan housing you will need the heat resistant carbon gaskets. I bought my carbon gaskets here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290762317233?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1203 but can you believe he's now closed down, but I have looked online and found this set https://sales.butlertechnik.com/eberspacher-hydronic-seal-kit-201820990001 I'll post again when I have installed the new gauze, and let you all know if it works !! Thanks again for all the help and advice Best Regards Steve. -
Hello all. I am the owner of a 2001 Alhambra TDI SE, As well as problems with my air con, wipers, limp mode, etc. Now my rear auxiliary heater is playing up. It wasn't working so I installed a new Beru glowplug, totally stripped and cleaned the unit, reassembled it with new gaskets, but it's blowing out plumes of white/grey smoke. The heater starts up with a high pitched whine, then a small puff of smoke comes out the exhaust, the noise gets louder, the unit starts warming the water, then plumes and plumes of dense white/grey smoke as if a smoke grenade has gone off !!! I have driven the car like this, and the heater is working fine with regards to warming the water temperature, it warms up so much quicker, but the bellowing smoke is a problem ! Does anybody have any ideas, the unit was stripped, cleaned, reassembled with new carbon gaskets ! Not enough air in the mixture ? too much diesel going in ? Thank you in advance for any help or ideas. Best Regards Steve.

Air Con Blowing Warm Air
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello everyone. Thank you all for your input. I've been on the formula1 website and read what was supposed to have been done. Seems my system had flush, clean, de moisture, pressure test and re fill. I'll go back to formula1 in Canterbury on Saturday and ask them to do it all again. I'll post what the outcome was. If they say I haven't lost any pressure then I can then concentrate on electricals ! Best Regards Steve. -
Hello everyone, I drive a 2001 Seat Alhambra 1.9tdi se, my air con has packed up again !. Three weeks ago my climate control wasn't working I had the flashing heater display which I had heard was low gas pressure. I had the system flushed and filled on a fancy machine at Formula1. It worked, two weeks driving in Spain and lovely cold air ! Now three weeks later and the climate control has stopped again. This time I have no flashing display. I can hear the two fans at the front kick in, but there's no click or noise from the compressor, the pulley spins freely, so the compressor isn't seized. Is it safe to run a live feed direct to the compressor ! this would eliminate the pressure switch ? Best Regards Steve.

Air Con Pressure Switch
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello, Thank you for your quick reply, my full error is 00792 - A/C Pressure Switch (F129) 35 - 10 Intermittent I hope that I haven't got to replace the switch as its screwed in tight (just tried), and the welds aren't too great on the fittings for it. I can see myself tearing some aluminium tubing !!! Hopefully it just needs a re-gas. Speaking of re-gassing, I have two re-gas screw fittings in my engine bay, do both of these pipes share the same pressure switch behind the drivers side front bumper, or is there another switch somewhere ? I have an Alhambra with the front/rear climate control. I haven't got the roof mounted vents that I've seen in Galaxy's ? Many Thanks Steve. -
Hello everyone, Could you please help me with the climate control on my 2002 Alhambra TDI, The climate control isn't working, as well as the flashing display I have also got an error code 00792, which I read as a pressure switch error. Could you tell me if the error code is saying the switch is faulty or is the error code saying the pressure switch has been activated and that I'm actually low on pressure in the system ? I've had a quick look with an ultra violet torch and have found no leaks ? Many Thanks for any help, Steve.

Hello, Did you have to keep restarting your car to clear the fault, Mine keeps going into limp mode when accelerating hard. Your car could also be going into limp mode. There are so many VW engined TDi's that have this problem, Galaxy's,Alhambra's,Golfs,Passats. Could be sticking turbo vanes, leaking vacuum pipe, My problem calls up an over boost error, I haven't got a clue what that is ! Wish my Renault Espace had limp mode a few years ago, You would have no warning, and the turbo would explode, did that a few times !!! A few people on here have used the spray turbo cleaner, but then others advise do not spray anything into the turbo. Best of luck with investigating your problem, I'll be interested to see how you resolve it. Best Regards Steve.

Rear Caliper Wind Back Tool ?
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello SolarB, If I had my callipers in a vice I might have been able to push them back, but dangling on the car I just couldn't push them in, I ended up burring the edge of the piston ! I'll try and file it smooth. My tool has already arrived so I give it another go this weekend ! Best regards to you all. -
Rear Caliper Wind Back Tool ?
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello Bigjeeze, I've worked out that my clockwise motion is a right handed thread, so I've now ordered one. Thanks for your help, best Regards Steve. -
Hello everyone, I'm in the process of replacing my front and rear brake pads, I thought I could wind back my rear piston with mole grips like I did with my Mondeo, but the piston isn't having it, It's just spinning. I'll have to buy a wind back tool, I've seen left handed ones and right handed ones, could anybody tell me which one I need ? I know the piston went in a little bit with a clockwise turn. I have a 2002 Alhambra TDi, Any help and advice would be gratefully received. Best Regards Steve.

Engine Cooling Fans
steve.cafc replied to steve.cafc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello, Thank you for your quick reply. With regards to my cooling fan, is it worth buying a new temperature fan switch or could the relay be at fault? Should the fans run on after use, or am I paranoid, I know the electric pump should work for a few minutes, and I just assumed that the fan does as well? Best Regards Steve. -
Hello All, I have a 2002 Alhambra 1.9 TDi, I'm in the process of repairing my electric water pump. When I switch off the ignition to check if the electric pump is working I noticed that the cooling fan span very briefly then stopped, I can hear a relay click when the fan switches on/off. Are the electric pump and cooling fan on the same circuit, If the pump failed would the fan then not operate, or do I have a problem with my fan as well as my electric water pump ? My pump is definitely broken as I have used a voltmeter to confirm power to the pump for about 3 minutes after ignition off. Thank you for your time, best Regards Steve.
