Recon 2.3 Autobox Needed
jasongtr replied to jasongtr's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
the problem being i cannot work out how to access the auto fluid temp part in the software, if you can talk me through it that would be great. the faults that came up i think are the same as what came up before, i cleared them last time and after a few miles the management light went out and on rechecking the fault codes they didnt come back until i had the problem yesterday. if i can do the gearbox oil myself with a few pointers on how to run the temp up using vagcom then ill do it myself from what i can tell ill need the oil obviously - enough to do it 2 or three times, and a new filter (in the sump i believe) and i guess some new gasket(s) or sealant for when i refit the sump, im guessing that the 2nd and possibly third time i drop the fluids i wont need to take the sump off, wont the first time be enough for that. thanks for your help thus far, if i can get the vagcom info ill do it this week as we are off for a 400 mile round trip on holiday in a few weeks, if its not done by then ill be hiring a car to go away in -

these are the fault codes that were stored - its a 4 speed auto Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: None Control Module Part Number: 099 927 733 AP Component and/or Version: AG4 Getriebe 099 4773 Software Coding: 00000 Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 VCID: 72E120421429 4 Faults Found: 00518 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 00652 - Gear Monitoring 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00638 - Engine/Transmission Electrical Connection 2 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent 01192 - Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch 04-00 - Mechanical Malfunction still not sure about the temperature being correct/critical, every other post i have read suggests running the car for about 5 mins - that doesnt sound very accurate if its supposed to be critical -
i have posted up for a few months on a few posts about how my gearbox seems like its giving up, after travelling to norfolk this weekend it got a little worse, going there it was ok, although after a few dodgy 2-3 and 3-4 changes (with squeeks and squeals) the management light came on the next day, now i have vag com and can clear the fault, but coming back this afternoon, after about 30 miles it wouldnt go into 4th, and from 2nd to 3rd it wold only change at 4k revs still with a light throttle, it would only go as high as 3rd (but would go from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd still - so not in limp home mode) for about 45 miles, so we stopped to get a bite to eat for 30-40mins and continued, all was fine again, still a few squeeks and squeals on occassion but with light throttle would change through all the gears at 2k or less revs. so whats the price of a recon box fitted, or would a simple oil change do any good - needs to be a high chance of success for the oil change though, and whats the cost of that likely to be, ive been advised it needs to be done by a garage as it needs to be added at the correct temp, so a home on the driveway gearbox oil change is out of the question.

Is My Gearbox On Its Way Out?
jasongtr replied to jasongtr's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
slight update. the car is still driving fine, but ive noticed its not the length of the journey that dictates the problem going into 4th or the little chirpy noise (whicj sometimes goes to a squeal) but just when it gets up to temp and lots of stop start round town driving - using lots of gear changes does this sound like a quick/easy/cheap fix - or just live with it until it goes pop -

mine is a 4 speed auto, so how many litres does it need? also is the 1st reply true that it needs to be donw by a garage due to this temperature thing? -

any idea on the cost of that, as unless its def going to cure the problem i am not really happy to pay out any money on this thing. if id of known i would of had this problem or it went just before the tranmission switch went it would of already been broken and sold as parts. -
its a 2001 galaxy 2.3 auto petrol i have just spent nearly £400 sorting the transmission switch and the battery junction box and less than 2 weeks after getting it back i have another problem. after driving for around 45mins the car will struggle to get into 4th gear, it over revs like a manual car with a slipping clutch, occassionally going from 2nd the 3rd they is a small chirp sound, yesterday it got a lttle worse and wouldnt go into 4th at all so drove home in 3rd, (i could still use all other gears) i couldnt even change up or down using the manual shift. i got home parked up and went in, about an hour ater i had to move it as i was blcking a neighbours drive, all i did was reverse 10 feert, and the engine management light cam on the dash.... this morning after it being sat for 12 hours i took it out and whilst the light was still on it behaved itself, still a slight problem every now and then going into 4th but the manual sshift thing was working again. After about 45 mins driving again along with that occassional chirp from my canary under the bonnet there was a scretch for a second or so (like a fan belt sslipping but i dont think it was that), half hour parked up eating a mcdonalds and a 30 min drive home it was perfect all the way home (the engine mgment light is still on) Any ideas, i think ill get another car, but how long do you think this one has left if it does indeed sound like a gearbox on its last legs

Help! Car Not Working!
jasongtr replied to sooty777's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
well i thougth it was the immob, but the auto elecs place its at now said the galaxy immob will alloy the car to start then cut out as its linked to the fuel supply (sounds reasonable i suppose) what 'noise' do you here trying to start it, i assume its not the starter motor, mine makes a sort of fan like gurggling sound, i think thats the fuel pump -

sounds like the same problem as mine has, all the lights come up on the dash and nothing happens when you turn the key, mines in a garage at the moment (not fords) and they have got as far as saying the transmission switch is faulty (which may or may not cure the problem) but the ecu isnt 'talking' to their diagnostic equipment, if it costs too much ill break the car and buy another one edit: mine is the same car 2.3 petrol 2001 model (mines an auto) -
Electrical Problem (poss Immob)
jasongtr replied to jasongtr's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
bit of an update, the auto electricains place says there might be a problem with the transmission switch, they havent got a price on this yet (anybody know how much this is?), also he siad my car wont communicate with their diagnosicts machine, the guy who was working on it has been called away so i wont know anymore until monday/tuesday. anybody have a clue what my bill is likely to be - and whether its worth proceeding or just buy another car? -

ok no joy with the new battery, in fact my neighbour used his car to try and jump so i know its def not that now, the soleniod/starter looks a pita to get to so i have called a garage and told them to come and get it, when its fixed/problem diagnosed ill post back on here so maybe it will help others in the future. thanks for all the help so far -
