  1. Hello All, Thank you all for your replies. The drawing big kev posted seems to tie up with what I can see, unfortunately even with the passenger side airbag out I can't see the heater flap motor. I can see the cable which heads that way so I'm sure it's there but there's absolutely no chance of getting to it without the dash out I suspect. Thanks for the advise on the matrix Seatkid, does anyone know of a guide on bleeding the matrix ? If the VAGCAM tool comes back with a flap fault how difficult is it to remove the upper dash to get at things ? If anyone knows of an idiots guide to this it would be a great help I'm sure. Thanks again Craig
  2. Hi all, I have a Mk1 Galaxy 90 TDi with Climate Control and no rear Aux heater. I don't have any control over the temperature of the cabin, the air is always mildly warm. I can divert the air wherever I want and this appears to work ok. On very rare occasions the heating bursts into life and I end up with lots of heat but am again unable to control this. I have changed the radiator thermostat and the Climate control panel to no avail. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions of what to try next or to look out for on VAG (I've ordered a VAG Diagnostics Unit) and it would be very useful to know if I can get too the motor that controls temperature so that I can check operation. I have located 2 flap motors on the RH side of the centre console and these seem to be turning ok. I've taken the lower dash panels off but still can't locate the heating flap control so any help or pictures would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance. Craig
  3. Hi Masked Marauder, Thanks for the information, when I bought the key I got one with the electronics built in, is this enough or do I need an additional chip ? I've gone to ebay and bought an OSD cable and various bits of software, including, I think VAG-COM. I presume I still need the info from the Fraud dealer regarding the immobiliser code ? Thanks again Craig
  4. Hi All, I'm sure this topic has been covered ad infinitum but here goes. My '97 Galaxy TDi Ghia X has only one black key. No reds were provided when we bought the car. A couple of years ago after the kids got locked in by the daft central locking system closing itself with the one key in (great bit of design Mr Ford), I purchased a new key from a Fraud dealer. They couldn't cut it so off I went to the local locksmith who did the job. Only then did I find out from the Fraud dealer that I needed two black keys or the original red key to be able to program my new key. So my question is can I get my keys working ? Could I use a laptop and an ODB cable with suitable software ? Or is there another cheap solution ? Thanks in advance Craig
  5. Hi marty, It could be this but the radiator doesn't seem to warm up, even after a 10 min run and sitting idling on the drive for an additional 10 mins there was no detectable heat in the rad. Craig
  6. Hi seatkid, It's a 1997 model and it has a climatronic control panel, which I have tried depowering and resetting on the advice of a friend. This panel does flash at startup but has done since we bought the car 4 years ago and is doing so due to the AC not working (due to no gas methinks). The heating problem only occured a year ago. Regards Craig
  7. Hi Buddman, I've just had a look at your posts and I'm resonably sure that it is not the head gasket. I'm not losing any water from the cooling system and the car isn't overheating and is running normally. Regards Craig
  8. Hi, I'm fairly sure there isn't an Aux heater fitted to the car, I can't see any sign of it on the rear ns wheelarch and there are no controls for it in the cabin. There are no leaks and I am not losing coolant. Regards Craig
  9. Hi, My 1997 galaxy TDi Ghia X has no heating and the kids are complaining !! Neither the front nor rear heaters are producing any heat irrespective of control settings. This has been an ongoing problem for the last year but a cold winter has prompted me to try and fix it or at least diagnose the fault. How is the matrix fed with hot water, is it somewher I can feel it to see if it is hot ? Is it via the radiator or from a seperate system using seperate thermostats etc. The radiator doesn't seem to get warm at all during the normal 15min runs that I do. During the summer the car didn't run hot at all and on one particularly hot day the heating worked breifly after I had parked it for 20 mins and got back in. I am technically minded but don't know locations of pipes, valves and any specifics of how things work in this vehicle. The fans do run and the controls do speed things up and divert air to windscreen etc ok. Someone suggested removing power from the climate control system unit to reset it, but this didn't change anything. I did buy a Hayes manual but have misplaced it and it didn't seem to cover the climate control model !!! Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance Craig
  10. Hi Steve, The coolant level was very slightly less than it should have been when I checked it last. I topped it up. So it may be loosing coolant but very slowly. Craig
  11. Hi Everyone, I have a 1994 Galaxy TDi Ghia X with climate control etc. I bought it used (4years ago). Last august the front heater seemed to stick at one very low temperature setting and refuses to change whatever you do to the controls. 2 months ago I started the car whilst it was warm and found hot air blasting out (not due to sunshine as it was raining and fairly cold). I played with the temp control and could change the temp, but it seemed to be back to front, when I set it to cool it got hot and vica versa. This only lasted 3 or 4 mins, and I was driving at the time so didn't mange to work out a pattern. Needless to say it stopped heating and as winter is approaching I really ought to try and fix it. I bought a haynes manual, but it dosn't seem to cover my particular model. I'm not a keen mechanic and don't have a garage, but am mechanically competent and very motivated to fix this, or will have to rely on the windscreen de-mister again this winter :-) The AC has never worked in the time we have owned it, the LCD display flashes when car is started. No odd noises or smells have ever emenated from the AC unit. Any suggestions as to what I can do ? We can't afford to take the car to a garage so any input would be very welcome. Thanks Craig
