  1. If you have a sunroof check the drainage pipes under the headlining on pass side, rehearsals plenty of posts on here to advise good luck
  2. hi mike, has the box definitely gone or has the fluid come from the slave cylinder in the g/box.My g/box went bang a couple of months ago so i bought another one only to find out it was only the clutch plate that had seperated hence the bang new clutch and slave cylinder and now shes sorted,i have the g/box for a 2.3 manual which is now surplus i have been told that the 2.0 /2.3 box are the same, im based up in horsham nr gatwick if interested ,my email is terry_bantock@sky.com good luck :angry2:
  3. hi my mk1 would fill up with water on pass side it turned out it was the sunroof drainpipe was disconnected and was also about an inch to short i bridged the gap with a piece of hosepipe and 2 jubille clips, to get to it pull off the rubber door seal, then remove the sunvisor and grab handle you should then be able to pull down the headlining to check it ,hope this helps good luck.
  4. Great news. It's good to hear a positive outcome, and another lease of life for an older Galaxy. :) FWIW, I still prefer the look of the mk.1... if only the seats were a bit more supportive and the interior more modern, it would be perfect! morning all, EUREKA!! now sorted water ingress to pass/side the drain pipe from the sunroof was disconected and was about 1" to short, some clown had bridged the gap with a piece of gaffer tape,so water was running down the outside of pipe,10 min fix with a piece of hosepipe and a couple of jubilee clips ,aux belt and drop links done,(supprised how easy they were to do) running sweet now just have to wait for mot in may !! :) :) :D
  5. :) hi all well finally got it up and running ,turned out it was clutch plate seperated,so after having to buy a 2nd hand g/box for £150 because no garage wanted to to take clutch out without having a replacement g/box (because it went with a bang!!) so the car wouldnt be stuck on thier ramp for 2/3 days,so now i have a mk1 man/g/box for sale( put my original back in), manual central locking now sorted courtesy of another gem box and 2 rear door solenoids, just have to sort out remote side of it now,red door led flashes when locked manually, but wont go into programming mode when doin the 3 key turns etc , also can now see where water is coming in under the n/s/f door seal about 3" from the front not sure if this the seal itself or poss w/screen leaking into A pillar and running along the under sill seal ,have also done drop links and aux belt myself took about 40 mins to do the lot, oh happy days :)
  6. had a similar experience several years ago with yes car credit, should have realised when the salesman signed his surname as (DONT LAUGH) "crook" :) ive still got the paperwork with his name on as a reminder not to trust any of them !!!!!
  7. cheers for the help,i think im gonna use your last bit of advice "get someone else to do it" local garage said they will do it for
  8. Actually, you shouldn't need a balljoint splitter - the bottom balljoints are fastened to the bottom arms with capheads (decent allen keys or drive bits required) and it's easiest to undo those and split the balljoint from the bottom arm. As for a trolley jack, you will need to jack up the engine as well as lower the gearbox down, so two jacks are handy. You can drop the engine onto a stand, but the second jack helps if you need to move the engine about a bit when taking the 'box off. The higher lift the better, but you can pack the gap up a bit, of course. The best tip I can give is to let someone else do it, especially when it's this cold outside... Brrrr!
  9. Evening all, thanks for the welcome and the advice/help, on reflection im not sure if the car jumped out of gear or if i knocked it out as it all happened so quick and was a bit hairy as i didnt want to get t-boned by an artic or have the row of cars run into the back of me.!!! anyway on looking at her this morn it looks like you can still select gears although slightly notchy, ie; gear stick will move into all gear positions,i have done a clutch before on a sierra rwd so im tempted to have a go at this one i have a good selection of tools etc and if i get stuck itll have to be a job 4 a mobile mechanic, can anyone recomend a good brand of ball joint splitter ? or any good tips on the process ? will my halfords 2 ton trolley jack lift it high enough or do i need to get a high lift one ? many thanks all terryb <_< :)
  10. hi this is my first time on this site and so far im well impressed, now i hope some one may be able to help ?. just bought a mk1 2.3 ghia on a 97 p/plate gal manual with an alleged faulty clutch, car has 84k certified mls and a so & so to get into gear but as it is a very clean example i bought it anyway the 2nd time i took it out to go to the garage, halfway across a busy roundabout there was a very loud bang from g/box area and it came out of gear so i had force it into 2nd another bang and it got drive again now theres no drive in any gear, the clutch pedal seems to be ok as when you let the clutch up you can here something spinning.now has the box gone or was it the clutch disintigrating local garage have said if i supply all parts they will charge
