  1. ran out of thanks for my day but only logged on, strange...sparky here's a virtual one :46:
  2. thanks all for your replies and help....true enough, bolt has a phat ol' washer already on it.....it looked like it was the bolt but on closer inspection it moves but cannot be removed from the bolt. Father in law sourced 2x bolts, two days before MOT having one last look from father in laws lorry pit ( i am blessed ) and noticed the passenger side inner boot was torn. went out and bought a cone, slipped the outer cv off and slipped on the new one...piece of cake once you've been under a few times lol.
  3. Hi again...new bolt from fords stealers. Just for info...there was no sign of any washers inside or outside of cv or hub. The stretch bolt has a large flange that bears down directly onto the outside face of the hub/bearing ( first pic ). On with the passenger gearbox side cv gaitor tonight. As removing the outer cv is a snip ( thanks again John ), im going to see if I can stretch the boot over the rubber counterweight on the passenger drive shaft so I don't have to pull it from the gearbox but I'm set up with a catch-can for the gearbox oil and a new oil seal just in case I cant ;)
  4. Ace tip about using the pinch bolt to push the cv joint off :)
  5. Bolt on ebay is silver, mine are black....thats the only difference I can see without holding it in my hand....thanks for looking though ;)
  6. 120mm sounds about right lol. Winding it in worked a treat and it snapped right back on lovely jubbly....sad thing is, I checked the car over last weekend and spotted this driveshaft boot split, did the front pads while I was at it and noticed the passenger inner driveshaft boot has also split!. How did I miss that last time I keep asking myself....sigh....
  7. Lazy day today + its raining, going to do it tomorrow over a lorry pit just in case something goes amiss. I shall post a few picture once ive finished.
  8. Have heard about the bolt somewhere else....perhaps another of your posts lol. Cant buy them on there own as they only come as part of a bearing kit so a few factor shops have told me...wilko is our main local one. May have to go to ford stealers for it :( Just as a footnote....this thread is what forums for me are all about. Getting help and info but also watching the helpers learning a trick or two while helping....what goes around, comes around :) Thank you all for you very swift and helpful posts
  9. Back from work in said car and under I go tomorrow. Wish me luck ;)
  10. Thanks sparky, only joined this evening, been rude and haven't introduced myself on the forum yet. Thanks for the swift reply, must admit you had cropped up quite a bit as I searched for clues on here...its nice to know there are supportive folks on here. I take it the gearbox end of the shaft is indeed plugging the gearbox oil. Thought (hoped) it was not the case. Is there a huge amount of oil in the dif area or does it only just reach the output shaft holes or will it be a waterfall of oil if I remove the shaft, will I need new oil seals ect......so many questions, so little time to prepare. Had a big problem with limited space to drift the end off. Must admit that I never removed any plastic sheilds. Is it advisable to remove these for a better swing?
  11. evening all! i own a 1999 mk1 1.9d galaxy after a failed attempt to drift my drivers side outer cv from the drive shaft i am here on bended knee with a bad back. removed splines from hub, tried to drift it off with a large adjustable to bridge the ds but could not get enough 'swing' to do any use. is it easier to totally remove the whole drive shaft and do it on the bench, if so, is the gearbox side about to pour oil all over me once its out or is it held on a protruding cage so as it has no contact with oil seals and gearbox oil. pics and info would be greatly accepted. all i want to do is change the flippin' boot :( is the outer cv held on with a 'c' clip keyed into the drive shaft splines and can i 'knock it off' past the 'c' clip ??
