  1. My Aux Heater stopped working early this year- she's a 2001 1.9TDi 6 Speed Manual, following some threads on here I removed it & attempted to strip it down, however it was to far gone with all screws corroded & even the cables in a bad way, I simply linked the pipes that came in & out of the heater & have been using like that since, however I was thinking that pumping coolant all the way to the rear under the car (where it gets further cooled by ambient air) is why she's taking so long to warm up (15 minutes on a cold morning). Could I simply link the pipes that go the the rear matrix at the rear engine bulkhead, this should result in a lot quicker warm up. Once warm the front heater kicks out more than enough heat. Any thoughts please Thanks
  2. Ok removed filler plug & used a bent piece of wire to probe around, it came out dry!! Think i'll do a complete drain & refill but firstly Ford want £17 a litre!!!!!! & they say I need 3 litres So my questions are: : Is there a suitable (cheaper) replacement, tried Wilco but they say I have to get it from Ford as it's "special" : How much do I need for a complete refill - is 3 litres enough Thanks
  3. Thanks Dave, dont laugh but how do I check it, did some searching on the forum & it looks like there is no level check as such but just to fill till it comes out of the hole, is that correct?
  4. Hope someone can help, when decelerating in 5th there is a whine from the gearbox, pushing the clutch pedal down makes the noise disappear, it doesn't do it in any other gear. This is a reconditioned gearbox fitted 2 years ago & has only done 10k though the car has done 145k Clutch was changed at the same time & feels good, no slip/ strange smells etc. Gearbox works perfectly in all 6 gears & reverse, doesn't drop out of gear, changes gear smoothly - just this weird whining! Thanks In Advance
  5. Thanks for everyones advice on this, from joining this forum I have discoved the Galaxy heating system is indeed complicated % unreliable, since my original thread I have fixed multiple problems with my heating inc run-on pump (new brushes)/ blower not working speeds 1 & 2 (repaired heater resistor pack) & aux heater not working (large red wire at heater repaired) However still have the same problem so looks like I'm going to have to check the water pump out, this however would be a garage job (many
  6. Thats exactly how I did it: Removed heater (see other threads on this), had to open up the heater loom & go back 5cms to find undamaged cable then crimped on a 6mm female spade connector. On the car side I cut the cable off where it goes into the connector & crimped on a 10cm length of suitable sized cable with a male spade connector, covered with heatshrink & connected it all together to check it out. I got communication with the heater controller straight away, lots of faults logged but none relating to glow plug faults, cleared faults, shorted temp sensor in front of car & started engine, hey presto heater spins & tries to ignite, had to stop there as needed car so unplugged it all, will carry on nexrt week but so far so good, thanks to everyone for their help. Only thing my cheapo version of the vagcom sotware wont let me do is test seperate functions, i.e fuel pump & blower motor, is there a way to do this or do I need to buy the upgraded software
  7. Once again excellent advice, many thanks the big red wire is indeed burnt out, will repair it over next couple of days & let you know how it goes

  9. Ok everyone, thanks for all previous help & yes I have tried to find the answer to this one on the forum but everything suggested I have tried but no joy (its a Mk 2 1.9TDi Zetec registered Dec 2000) Got Vag Com VCDS-Lite bits this afternoon, can communicate with the Engine & ABS Controller but not the Aux Htr Controller, I get a "No Responce From Controller" message, Have tried changing latency timing (suggested on other threads) from 16 down to 1 & up to 30, the comms test goes from poor to good with a very low figure but still no comms, cant beleive its a computer, driver, lead issue or I wouldnt be able to see the Engine/ABS units, help! John
  10. Thanks for all the help on my original question, I now want to get a Vag-Com lead/software to see whats happening & cancel any aux heater faults but they seem to vary in price from
  11. Thanks for that will start looking into it, out of interest if the impeller has fallen off what is pumping the coolant around or is it as with everthing on the Galaxy a simple system made complicated! Also where do you get a workshop manual?

  13. New to the forum hope you guys (& girls) can help, my 2001 1.9tdi heater isnt working at all, the heater blows at the correct speeds but no hot air despite engine coming up to temp, been to local garage who have replaced thermostsat & drained/ refilled coolant & have bled it about 10 times, if the car is left idling then there is "warmish" air but as soon as the car is moving it blows cold. The car did overtemp in the summer, temp went straight to the red when I was doing about 70, let it cool down & topped it up and it did it again in October at the same speed, dont get the chance to do those speed very ofetn though as the car is mainly used on b roads in depths of Norfolk, could this be related to the heating fault? Have read with interest all the threads on aux heaters (which also isnt working but I wil look at later) but cant find much on the main heater Thanks in Advance
