  1. Thanks for the reply's, I have now bit the bullet and stripped the engine down. I took the head off yesterday and removed all the internals and took it to be skimmed today. I'm picking up some new seals (water housing side of head and oil filter housing seal) from Fords and new valve stem oil seals from Euro car parts as Fords wanted
  2. Kwik Fit is good, I took my Seat Alhambra there a few years ago, I think it was
  3. Hi Steve, What were the symptoms that you were getting with the car to suspect the head gasket? Mine is pressurising the cooling system and does loose a little bit of water but has no white smoke or oil in water/ water in oil. I found the aux electric water pump wasn't working so fixed that but its still pressurising the system and if I go over 65 the gauge goes above 90 degrees but below stays at 90 but the heater has a mind of its own, sometimes its lovely and hot and other times its stone cold. I have a new water pump and cam belt kit to go on it but was thinking the head would have to come off first to sort the gasket but seeing your post made me more optimistic. Regards Andy
  4. Hi, did you ever do this???? I just got mine off by pulling the clip apart with a small screwdriver, it just needs to be loosened enough to allow the four plastic lugs to come out of the groove that holds the gear knob on. With these loosened it just pulls off. The problem I have now is getting the gaiter (which I am trying to replace) off of the gear knob. There is the gear knob, a shiny ring then the gaiter, then underneath is a black plastic sleeve which has a bit inside that goes over the gear stick..... but how does it come out??? I tried prising it with a screwdriver but its going to snap!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Done the fuel pump, removed the end cover (6 x T30 tork bolts), there is a rubber gasket inside which I removed, put in a bit of flange sealer, replaced gasket and then replaced the end cover and tightened the bolts back up in a cross sequence so that it went on level and now no leak!! One down, probably 1000 more jobs left to do!!, just sorting the cheap ones out first. I might take it into Mr Clutch later in the week to get them to check it, I was told the thrust bearing had gone when I got it, the car changes gear fine just noisy when pushing the clutch in and releasing it. I still think the duel mass flywheel is going though, the car still sounds noisy and is worse when I lay under it so is either the flywheel or the big ends are on the way out!! its just a noise ever couple of seconds, its hard to explain the sound, it not a knock its more like something rubbing.
  6. Well its not the gearbox damper as that looks quite new and is tight. Next I am going to look at the fuel pump housing on the end of the cam shaft, there is a cover plate on the right hand side which has a leak at the top (bubbles and diesel coming out). I just want to know what is behind the plate before I take it off and things jump out at me, also is there a rubber seal that goes in there as it looks like someone has tried to seal it up with hylomar before but it hasn't worked. Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. Hi all, I have just brought a Y reg TDi zetec AUY code Galaxy and it looks like it has a few problems!! First the noise, now this sounds just like the noise my citroen xantia used to make with the sphere regulator for the suspension. It sounds like something cuts in for a few seconds and then cuts out again, I thought it may be the air con pump but the switch doesn't even light up on the dash. The Engine starts first time and seems to run ok but vibrates/ shakes quite a lot so am going to check the roll restrictor tomorrow but think it might be the flywheel as the clutch is a bit iffy, it works fine but shakes slightly when pulling away or reversing and you can here what sounds like a dry thrust bearing noise when you press and release the clutch. The pedal got stuck down the other day and was a nightmare to get in gear, I checked the fluid level and it was low so topped it up and bleed it but the pedal was still low so I grabbed it and pulled it up and it works fine again so don't know what happened there, perhaps its just the thrust bearing. The other thing I have noticed is the aux belt tensioner shakes a bit which I have looked up and see that seems to be a alternator problem. I have just fixed my electric water pump with help from the forum, as I thought the head gasket had gone, I got the bushes for
