pinism

Hi, I've recently bought an R reg Galaxy 2.8. Yesterday the wipers decided to stop working. I've tried to check the fuses, but can't access the fuse box - located below and to the right of the steering column. I can get the cover to open partiall, but not enough to remove or even check the fuses are properly located. Am I missing something obvious, or is it designed to be hard to access?
