  5. hi to everyone.. i am attempting to replace the thermostat in my galaxy..i have looked at the dismantling procedure on the faq`s on the forum but it doesn`t show how to remove from car i dont think there is any way of replacing the stat in situ unless you have hand like reed richards from the fantastic four can anyone help with advise of how to remove the thermostat housing ?? i have had a look myself and managed to remove several layers of skin already trying to remove the hoses help please :)
  6. Hi to everyone an update on my running hot galaxy mk 1 2.8 v6 Was gonna get the local garage to replace suspect thermostat and flush coolant system as i said before the symtom`s are the temp creeps up after a mid/long run to just under the red on the gauge but with the heaters on full/max temp it stays there...just... the bottom hose to the radiator is cold ..why i was guessing thermostat water is returning to the expansion bottle via the little hose on top dropped the car today...and fair play to the garage they phoned me and said they had put the dye in the water system and it turned green indicating a blown head gasket i really like the car but cannot justify spending all that money to get them done...can anyone recommend any of those head gasket sealer`s or any other solution to prelong its life
  7. thanks again cyborg for all the help...checked out the link and will have a go
  8. hello everyone i`m looking to change the thermostat and flush the coolant system on my mk 1..1999..galaxy can anyone suggest the best way of flushing and if the coil pack needs to be removed(if so how).........want to stop driving with one eye on the temp gauge..cheers sorry forgot to mention its the daddy 2.8 ghia x
  9. thanks for the advice... the fans seem ok...they cut in and work at different speeds i read on here cos i have climate control still think it may be blocked radiator or thermostat.. ran it today on idle for about 45 mins..the bottom hose feels warm adj to the thermostat housing at the top of the engine but as it goes to the bottom of the radiator the hose is cold think i`m gonna change the thermostat and flush the system has anyone on here done that...if so i would apreciate any step by step instructions
  10. Hi again...thanks for your reply to remove the thermostat does the coil pack need to be removed as well ??
  11. sorry i`m a bit of a novice car mechanic...where are the pumps situated and is it an easy job to remove or test the heater in the car does blow out nice hot air which i believe makes the heater matrix ok was told the if water was returning to the expansion tank that the pump was ok was gonna flush the water system...can anyone tell me the quickest and easiest way hopefully thanks for the info cyborg
  12. hi everyone... i have just purchased a 1999 galaxy mk 1 2.8 ghia x...lovely car..however i bought it with a known problem and i`m trying a home fix {hopefully)..with your help the car drives fine but the temp creeps up after a while..to just on the red..you can bring it down slightly by putting the heater on max heat water is returning to the expansion tank via the little hose on top so i guess the water pump is ok ? and its not pressuring up which i believe the head gaskets are ok ? no water/oil mixing i have noticed the radiator bottom hose is cold but the top hose is hot was thinking thermostat sticking or radiator blocked any help will me much appreciated
