  1. Thanks to Seatkid. The oil is like ATF (nice smell if your into oil sniffing) and is as specified in the owners handbook, Different to the type specified by Haynes tho. Presume Fraud takes precedence. No roof vents so presume no a/c in the rear. Front a/c does not seem as cool as it used to be. Have read several notices about the subject bot DOB leaves me confused about the remedy.
  2. Having done 55k in my tdi galaxy I still think it a good motah. My wife drives it daily to school, weve done several trips to the south of France almost none stop and quite a few long trips Glasgow, Plymouth etc in the UK. IT fast enuf, quiet enuf (at speed) If we can afford a new one when she turns up her toes we will buy one. Of course we have had our share of the magic self opening locks and windows (pleased to learn that others have the wet floor syndrome, bluddysilly place to put electonics) It has lots of sillycrappy bits of plastic that come undone or break, but so did our collection of 505's and similar problems with a legion of other motahs. worst being the Maestro where almost everything broke. I swore I'd NEVER buy another blmc or whateverthey were called. No wonder they went down the tubes. Nah Mate the galaxy is a fine machine, dont be put off!
  3. I'm a new member with a 1997 mk 1 done 130k mls had it 2nd hand at 75k: much impressed by website tho difficult to find info. (is there a search by topic button?) 2 questions. 1. While servicing me motah using haynes i found it is possible to check the gearbox oil level. It used nearly a litre! The owners handbook says you dont have to replace the oil so previously I did not bother; question is have i buggd the gear box? Seems to work ok except it has been difficult to enter 1st without a crunch. Could this be cables? 2. Should the rear conditioner pump out cold air? Only recently discovered this bit of gear ! It only pushes out warmish air across the floor, tho havnt tried it on a long run. Will do next week on run to south of France. As with the front conditioner should it be regularly used ? As it has been on holiday for 55k wil it ever work? what do I do to restore it?
