  1. I think that there are fuses in mine that don't have to be there. Can anyone attach a picture so that we can compare? The problem is that with the description of the fuses in the handbook I don't know exactly what all the pictures mean.
  2. Yes it shows a picture of what each one does but I wanted something that listed the fuse rating alongside the fuse number.
  3. I have got to do the same at some point. What is the best cable to use? I tried to trace the cable back along inside the car to see if the cable can unplug somewhere and then just replace the whole cable from the car to the rear hatch but I don't think it will be that easy.
  4. Can anyone help me regarding my fuse box? I have attached a picture of it. The problem is that it does not match the information provided in the car manual, so I have got no idea what fuse does what. Can anyone provide a list with what fuse does what? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for that, I will give them a go. Would I be correct in saying that without this pump working the Aux heater would do nothing at all, not even make a noise before it shuts down? What I am hoping is that when I renew this pump the heater should work again.
  6. Yes that's what I am worried about. I could not easily see a spare plug that could be used unless it is tucked away out of view.
  7. Just been to Fords to find out how much a new fuel metering pump(for the aux heater) would cost and was told
  8. I have got a standard instrument panel in my Gal 1.9Tdi and would like to replace it with one that has got the trip computer etc if possible. I have looked behind the panel and other than the one lot of leads that plug into my existing one I can not see another plug that would go into the second socket on a new panel, could this be hidden and tied up somewhere? I did not do a thourough search.
  9. I have just had a look at my metering pump(eyes full of muck) and noticed that 1 wire is not fixed to the pump, the connection that the wire used to connect to on the pump has completly come off. I will have to get a new metering pump now, I hope that was the reason why my heater did not start?
  10. Thanks Jeff, I have got that on the to do list.
  11. My instrument panel only has one plug on the back. There is a spare 6 pin female connector doing nothing tied in with the cables, would this be used on a new panel?
  12. Thanks for the advice Oggy. And thanks again for everyones help, just hope I get it working before(if) it gets cold again.
  13. Well had another bash at replacing the glow plug, about 4 hours later(and a lot of swearing) job done after having to drill out a few bolts/screws. Fitted a new air intake hose and braket that fixes the unit to the vehicle. Tried shorting out temp-sensor but I expect the coolant was not cold enough for it to work, no good with my version of Vag-com(can't find 18) to clear out the fault codes and test it so I suppose it may have to be a trip to the dealer? though I have got some other test's to carry out first.
  14. Galaxy Man, Per VW & SEAT W/S manual, G62 refers to the coolant temperature sender for the a/c switch-off. This passes info. to the ECU or radiator fan control unit to switch on the a/c clutch at high coolant temps. This unit is located on the near-side of the radiator. The coolant temp. sensor controlling the booster heater is located within the heater unit: In the D3W (3Kw unit >05/2000) unit the temperature sensor is part ref. G18 In the D5WZ (5Kw unit 06/2000>)from unit the temp. sensor is part ref. G241 Your 00522 DTC then does not seem to be related to the booster heater operation but you should probably check wiring and connections to G62 anyway. Regards, J. Thanks ever so much Jeff for your reply, at least I know what that code means. Cheers Jason
  15. I will have another go at changing the glow plug soon. I run Vag-Com(shareware version) but the Aux Heater module does not show up, the only errors I get are below, is the 00522 code anything to do with it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N Control Module Part Number: 028 906 021 HC Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC G00SG 1905 Software Coding: 00002 Work Shop Code: WSC 00020 4 Faults Found: 00522 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) 29-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent 17978 - Shareware Version. 16. In my Gal(1.9 tdi 1997) what should show on the display between the dials(other than the norm, oil etc)? If I replaced the instrument panel with one with CC would it all work properly? When I asked Fords about the instrument panel there were loads of different model numbers available for my car, I would not know which one to get(though at the price
  17. I went to Fords asking about the service kit but they could not find it on the computer, has anyone got a part number, or a VW part number ? I have just ordered a new mounting braket and got the glow plug etc so must have another go at trying to get the thing apart as I could do with it working in this cold weather. Thanks in advance.
  18. The pictures on page 6 helped me very much, thanks Ivor. Problem for me was trying to take the unit apart, I managed to remove the unit and the bracket from the car(bolts that are attached to the bracket sheered off :D ) Just managed to undo the 4 screws from the cover over the blower though 1 screw I had to drill out :D But I had to give up going any further as I could not undo the 2 screws and alan key bolts on the end piece to get to the glow plug as they would not budge  and I was running out of time, so it was a case of putting it all back as best as I could and throwing all the tools into the shed. Anyone else had so much trouble as me, I used plenty of wd40.
  19. Funny enough my radio has also died, it is the ford bog standard one and I pushed the front bit in place but it does not work. The buttons all light up ok but no radio? -- Jason
  20. I e-mailed UCables and said that I could not get my laptop to reconise the lead and they replied within 10 minutes with a driver attached which done the trick, how is that for service. Thanks for the info joczeze, I expect I will get the stalk from fords, the one on ebay would end up costing about the same I expect. The instrument panel would be the biggest cost.
  21. A few questions please. I have looked at previous posts on the subject of upgrading my MK1 tdi to add cruise control and the trip computer. I have checked with Fords and seen that there is a stalk available that is for cruise and trip functions and cost's about
  22. Thanks very much for the help, found the broken wires. -- Looking at the last post gosh you were lucky, I bet that few seconds of panic struck before you thought what to do, and to have a caravan on the back as well. That makes me think that I wonder if you could put an led somewhere on the dash that is connected to the brake switch so that when you brake it lights up and you know the brakes are working, no light you know the brakes don't work, just an idea.
  23. Took my Gal to my local garage to have the sump gasket done, re-oiled and also a new anti roll bar drop link put in(nice to get rid of that noise). Total cost all in -
  24. I also had the faulty switch problem, went to fords and got a new switch and hey presto the brakes now work, however the high one in the rear window does not work, I have checked the bulbs with no problems. Is there a seperate fuse for these lights? or could it be a wiring fault? Thanks in advance.
  25. Thanks very much for the information.
