  1. Just checked the led on the door and it flashes constantly when I try to start the car Does this point to relay 30? Could disconnecting the battery cause this to fail? Getting worried now as I'm dragging a caravan around Devon over the next couple of weeks ( I hope)
  2. My galaxy passed another mot last week so I thought I'd splash out on a new clutch pulley on the alternator. I disconnected the battery and removed the alt ok and changed the pulley. Put it all back together but it now won't turn over. Dash lights up ok but when I turn the key nothing happens, lights don't dim and starter don't turn I've checked everything is connected ok regarding the bits I took off Any ideas? Something I've done?
  3. Anybody know if my mk1 diesel would have a clutch type alternator pulley it's a 2000 130 or so I'm told Garage wants to change tensioner along with alt bracket casting as its worn but it just doesn't seem right to me
  4. Hi I've got an old mk1 tdi galaxy and it's mot time again. I've been losing brake fluid for a week so took it to a friends garage to have a look, it seems that the master cylinder is faulty and allowing fluid to leak into servo. I've looked at a couple in breakers yards and none are the same as mine. Are there service kits available or do I have to buy a new one? Other than a couple of flexi hoses and the above she is good for another year Can I run this car on veg oil? One more issue is that the aux belt tensioner flaps about a bit on tickover and rattles, I changed the roller but still the same, the mechanic reckons I need a new alternator bracket as its worn where the tensioner spindle pivots, but the wear is minimal on the casting. Any ideas?
  5. I have a 98 galaxy 1 2.3 and i managed to stall it a few days ago whilst driving over a snow pile that my neighbour left on the road after clearing his driveway. It wouldnt start so i pushed it back and left it as i assumed i had flooded it.It has been acting wierd lately with the revs sometimes climbing to 5000 then cutting out etc but has always restarted first go. Any ideas?
  6. There is a 2.3 galaxy in a breakers near me and last time i stole bits off it the head was missing so they may be willing to sell the sump. I am going there on monday to get a few bits for my daughters car so ill have a look and get back to you.
  7. Check that the drainpipe is still connected, it is only a push fit and seemed a little short on mine. I reconnected mine and held it with a small jubilee clip and all is well. Remove the sun visor and awitch panel in the headlining,a pillar trim just pops off and the top bit of the door seal and pull the headlining down slightly at the front corners and you will see the pipe.
  8. Try adjusting the inhibitor switch half a turn, there is a small grubscrew on the top. Worked for me.
  9. The inhibitor switch is easily accessible from inside the car, just remove the selector cover and trim panel and you are there, from memory i think the adjusting screw is a small grubscrew on the top of the switch in a recess, small quarter turn adjustments till it will start in park and neutral only. easy 10 minute job with no parts to buy.
  10. Check the inhibitor switch under the selector, i had exactly the same problem in my sons sharan auto. The switch is adjustable via a small grubscrew so dont get talked into replacing it as i almost was.
  11. Found the source of the water today, the sunroof drain connects to a pipe that runs inside the A pillar,it had come adrift at the top allowing water to collect above the headlining and drain behind the A pillar trim, down the front door trim and into the footwell. I dont think it is a very good design as the pipe is only pushed in place and seems quite hard plastic that is liable to come loose. Fixed with a jubilee clip, just need to get the carpet dry now.
  12. I have a 98 galaxy, ive had it for a week or two and the first time it rained heavily the drivers footwell had about an inch of water in it. I have cleared the scuttle drain following the instructions found on this site but today its full of water again. Any ideas where i should look next? Great site by the way, ive fixed lots of little niggles on my car and my sons sharan with helpful information found here.
