Ok, just tried to VCDS into the aux heater, but no response, can you talk to the heater on a mk1 galaxy? (its a mk1 with mk2 electrics). -
You shouldn't have to wait to long Dave, it's down to zero here this morning, frost on the screen etc  For once its actually warm in a morning, its about 6-8c lol

Completly changed my heater for a new one yesterday, its a big job, never done anything like it before and it took me about 2 1/2 hours. I didnt raise the car on anything, just slid under the back, bolts came off easy enough, but it was VERY dirty. Hardest part for me was having plyers big enough for the jubilee clips on the hoses lol. Now ive just got to wait for the temp to drop to 5c for the damn thing to kick in so I can tell if its working lol.

It was sold as fully working, so i would assume so , what do I need to do with the pipes, i guess you need to crimp them or something to stop leakage? lol -

Many thanks for the offer Chris, but ive had a look at the pics the mechanic took and its really crusty lol, so ive bought a mk2 aux heater off ebay. Now the question is, how hard is it to swap over, or is it a mechanic job? David. -

Bizzare that disconnecting the MAF makes the car die :s, i wouldnt have thought the maf would cause the problems you are experiencing. -

The unit seems to drop ok, the garage sprayed the bolts and they came free. This is probably a long shot but does anyone live near the Burnley area thats done this before come and fit it for me? Will obviously pay for their time , i dont know if im experienced enough to do it. David. -

Oh , garage tried to get it fitted, they said its badly corroded, is it worth putting in a glowplug? The unit seems to work but pumps out white smoke. Is there any damage I could do? -

Hi all, Just wondering if theres a guide with pics anywhere to change the glowplug on a mk1 galaxy aux heater? the ones on the FAQ section dont seem to work. Thanks
-
HI - Be careful - The correct glow plug for the D5WZ heater is from BERU P/N 0100 226340. Got mine from these guys http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=54 : after trying other "equivalents" from Bosch and others - none of which fitted. These guys are out of stock, anyone know anywhere else I can get one?

Can you block off the EGR valve on a 1.9TDI mark 1 and will it cause any problems? If you can what parts do we need to get to get it sorted. Many thanks David.

As some of you already know I had my cambelt changed earlier this year, and car has been sluggish since with small ammounts of white smoke from exhaust. People have said timing probably is off, is there a way to put this right without going garage? Have vcds and cable. Or if anyone lives near colne can help me out :)

Hmmm ive heard of runaways still being driveable afterwords, but the engine is basically a complete mess (injectors clogged with molen metal), pistons buggered due to lack of lubrication. If thats whats happened it will probably mean a new engine including turbo :P.
