  1. Check your wiring. could be an earth has become brittle/partially disconnected so it can't carry the current needed hence the flat battery syndromes without the flat battery!
  2. any idea what the part code is? not been able to do any investigating yet! cheers
  3. will try to find out - might save me a few quid!
  4. hi everyone, i've got a mk1 gal vr6 ghia x the climate control has recently stopped blowing cold air on inspection, it wasn't engaging the pulley to spin the pump near the alternator fuse 27 had blown, which i replaced. the car started and a couple of seconds later when the pump normally engaged the fuse popped again. i tried a couple of times but it just kept popping at the same time. so i disconnected the multiplug to the pump, replaced the fuse and it didn't pop. reconnect the multiplug and pop goes another fuse! with the engine off, it is easy enough to spin the centre of the pully, there is resistance but not too much, so i can't imagine that the pump is stuck. any ideas. don't really want to swap the pump if that isn't the problem but i think it is pointing that way.....
  5. i would find more info about the xbox in relation to power. i heard somewhere that they do not like running on an inverter as these provide a square wave- not a true sine wave. as for sound, if you have an aftermarket headunit, it may well have rca inputs. if so you can wire that to the output of the xbox. laptops are dead easy to put in the car - just don't use a top end laptop as these will draw more power then the incar chargers can provide - eventually you will flatten the laptop battery. full pc's give you much more option in what you can do with them however they are more difficult to do properly. you need an opus power supply
  6. not tried it yet but have you got the foldup tables in the back of the seats - if so it might make the job easy if you remove these so you can route the wire easily. it might be worth removing the seats to get easy access for routing the wires. iirc it is only 4 bolts to undo and the seat will drop back out of the way - make sure any existing wires are unplugged or safe as you move the seat. take pics when you do it and post for people to see how you managed. good luck!!
  7. hi mof4, where do you live? if you are anywhere nr nottingham, i could probably solder them up for you at some point?
  8. hi people, has anyone removed the rear passenger heater that sits above the rear n/s wheel? it makes loads of space for fitting a sub or amp or playstation or inverter or toolkit or smuggling compartment for trips abroad or anything! simply remove the rear quarter trim, unplug the multiplugs and then remove the 2 flexible water pipes - remember to connect these back up together under the car and refill the engine coolant level. anyway - the point of the post is....... doing this has caused my climate control panel to flash for 2-3 seconds on engine start. i have had the aircon regassed but this did not solve it. aircon works fine but it's just a bit annoying oh, if anyones climate control stops working and the pulley near the alternator doesn't engage then check your fuses before changing servicing any expensive parts! anyone got any ideas?? car is a mk1 v6 galaxy ghia x
  9. hey mumof4, i just spoke to a friend on the phone today. he has a focus and was at the ffoc at the weekend. he told me that a woman came over from the galaxy forum and was chatting to him. he's got a red focus thats modded and ice'd up. apparently the woman was impressed at his car and he told her about a friend with a galaxy thats "doing it up". he was given stickers and told to direct him to this site. long and short of the story is; i'm already a member! his focus is the focus on the first page of this post! he's on the picture of the tug of war! he's in his thirties, not forties! small world eh! lol!
  10. my mk1 manual 2.8 v6 gal got high 20's on a long motorway journey. average speed of 65-70mph using cruise control
  11. ok. most of us know about the perils of the rear washer! before it causes me any problems i am going to remove the piping and rear jet as they don't get used anyway! does anyone know where the pipe is tee'd? i assume its in the engine bay somewhere but before i go exploring, i thought i would ask the question. cheers in advance dan
  12. if you are anywhere near sheffield give source sounds a ring on 0114 257 1550. they are just off j 35a (nr meadowhall) they do a banging job
  13. just got back from a 700 mile round trip going down to the south coast. my 2.8 v6 showed 26.8mpg on the computer but i worked it out about 29mpg from the fuel reciepts. i didn't think this was too bad for the guzzler!!
  14. its probably the water pump? there are two on the v6 - 1 is mechanical and runs off the pulleys where the alternator is and one is electric that runs somewhere on the other side of the engine. if the water is running down the block where all the pulleys are it could well be the mechanical water pump. if so it is good news as they are the cheaper and easier of the two to swap IIRC, when mine went we had to drop one side of the engine down to gain access to the pump. reasonably easy job to do though, you have to strip airbox etc out and undo engine mounting with engine supported. then lower that side to pivot the engine down. then its just a case of undoing the pump, sliding it out and replacing it with a new one
  15. i got a bracelet of scotchlocks that are crimped onto a bit of wire. they are a reminder of how badly some people do wiring!!! (they were removed from the towbar wiring loom that someone had fitted!)
