  1. Thanks again for the advice, I'll try what you said and let you know the outcome. Prognosis doesn't look good tho. :(
  2. Hi Firstly welcome to the site Spannerwrench. was the turbo changed to cure the smoking? also incorrect timing will cause smoke, was the engine smoking before these changes. Valve stem seals can also cause this. When you rev the engine up does it sound smooth ie, no misfire does it tickover evenly, the juddering may not be engine related, is it manual or automatic? Thanks for the rapid response, in answer to your questions: Turbo: Dont know, I believe it was changed as it had failed and the cambelt was done at the same time. The guy I bought it off was a trader and said he had been going to Portsmouth in it for the the last few weeks, he didn't mention the smoke (surprisingly enough!!) Engine Sound: No misfires and sounds smooth. It ticks over evenly. Juddering: Auto gearbox. I took it for a spin last night and didn't notice the smoke although I didnt take it out for long. I gave it a good boot (which usually starts the smoking) and saw none but it could do with a longer run I think. I'll try again tonight. You mentioned stem seals? Is that something thats gonna cost or is it a fairly simple replacement? Thanks again. :(
  3. I've recntly purchased a 2000 (W) Galaxy TDi, 135k recently had new Turbo and cambelt fitted. I'm very pleased with it but have noticed blue smoke after higher speeds (70-75mph) It then smokes pretty much all the time after that. I have read it may be piston rings but to check the air filters and change oil for a part synthetic rather than full synthetic which I have done. I noticed when changing the oil that there seems to be oil residue around the sump and bottom of the engine. Some say its terminal others say fixable. I dont claim to know anything about engines but my father-in-law is a bit of a petrol head and was wondering if it was something we could do ourselves. It also started juddering in low revs the other day, any idea what that is?? Just need an idea of whether to keep it or try and get rid before it costs me a fortune!
