Right what i have found is a pipe outlet that has a Red plastic bung on it located at the back of the inlet manifold. Also found a pipe that looks like it connects to it,so i;ve taken off the plastic bung and connected the pipe,It ran very rough on tick over and was not great when revving it.So have put it back where i found it! Any idea what this is and could it be my problem? -
High Idling While Driving!

I've checked the hoses and cant find anything. Was even thinking of changing the inlet manifold gasket. Anyway went out to test it again after cleaning the idle valve and nothing changed. Stopped before i got home and unplugged the air flow meter. It ran the same, no loss of power but when doing 30 to 40 mph,put my foot on the clutch and it would idle at 1000 rpm.Plugged it back in and the problem returned. Could this be it or is it just the ecm just re ajusting to the air flow meter not connected? -

Thanks Phil, will do.Well let the forum know when i've had a look. Think i could be the idle valve as it was sticky and does not seem to sit in the same place everytime i move the piston.Have had it off and been watching what it does when the ignition is switched on and it does move. Will take it on a run after lunch and see what it does. All the hoses look ok with nothing perished and all are tight. -

Hi, Got a problem with my 1997 2.3 ghia, Seems ok round town, still get a problem but its not as bad. I can drive around then come to stop or slow down and find not much engine drag, put my foot on the clucth and it will idle at around 1100 rpm,It wont drop to 900 rpm till i completely stop! On going on a run up the motorway last night when on the slip road again not much engine drag or breaking, again put my foot on the clucth and it sat at 2200 rpm till i came to a complete stop,It dropped alittle the slower i was going (1800 rpm)but cant work out whats going on.This problems always been there since i bought the car 2 weeks ago just seems alittle worse last night. I've cleaned out the idle valve,I replaced the engine wiring on the top half of the engine ( to the coil packs,tp,crank, cam sensors ect) because of the cracked and missing inslution leaving bare wiring.Checked the throttle cable and all seems ok.Im at a loss what to do. As i've unplugged all the sensors, injectors ect to replace the wiring would i have to disconnect the battery to reset everything? Or could it be a problem with maybe the speed sensor in the back of the gearbox, its on the same loom i replaced yesterday? Its a real problem and danger with it not slowing down like it should.Again once off the motorway, after a few mins it behaves like im driving around town again.Any ideas please?

Your central locking maybe the locking ecu under the passanger seat. That also controls the interior lights and alarm.Mine did the same till i replaced it.Door could be down to a faulty door switch. If you have perrished pipework, that wont help things. Not having a diesel myself cant help you with the others but there are plenty of chaps on here that can! You;ve come to the right place! Leon -
Head Gasket?
tamworthleon replied to steelyglint's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hiya, Where abouts is the oil, bell housing ect? Could be the front gearbox oil seal.Clean it all off then run the engine and get under the car. Your other problem, You need to let it run for a while and maybe you will get it happen again.Start your engine with the bottle cap removed to see what its doing. If it starts forcing water out of the top of the bottle then thats a good bet it will be the head Gasket.I've had this before with a Granada,it turned out to be the thermostat was knackard. They are easy to test.Let us know your findings. -

Galaxy Tdi Auto Gearbox
tamworthleon replied to richardman101's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
hi again - i have read that oil must be ford-specific. is this correct do you know, or can i use dex-3 or dex-2 universal stuff for my oil change if i do one? after all, the properties of new oil surely will outweigh those of brown sludgy stuff if thats what i am running on atm!! thanks again in advance for any advice! It would seem you do need Ford fluid but im sure you can goto any motor factor/shop and get somthing cheaper that meets fords spec.Just look on the back of the bottle first. If your oil is brown then it will deffo need changing.Cheaper than looking for another gearbox!!! -

hi gregers - unfortunately it was private purchase and i didnt notice the problem at the time - you have to be driving 'carefully' not heavily to reproduce the fault!! Check the oil first. If the oil is brown or black in color then it deffo whats changing. If not then i dont think an oil change will make any diffence.Other than that you maybe looking for another gearbox,Just a word of warning tho, buying a secondhand box might cost you big time.I've got to the stage now where i wont fit secondhand box'es anymore as somtomes they can be worse than the one you take out! -
How To Bleed Brakes
tamworthleon replied to Jonne's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi I havn't on a Galaxy I did blow the plastic reservoir of the master cylinder once years ago fluid everywhere. If I use that pressure system now I always use a spare wheel with about 15psi max I have done on a Galaxy before using a easy bleed kit. But as was said already let your spare tyre down to 10/15 psi first and not 20 psi like most kits say,Its that or you'll end up with brake fluid all over the place. They dont seem to seal very well! -

Hi again I'll stand corrected if im wrong but this diagram definatly shows TP sensor on the opposite side of the throttle housing where to where the throttle cable is attached it also shows the idle control valve I've had a look and there is definatly no TP sensor there,Maybe the 2.0 ltr does but deffo not mine. -
Central Locking Problem.
tamworthleon replied to tamworthleon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi proberbly wiring in drivers door to pillar harness and possibly rear tail gate, common problem due to opening/shutting doors breaks wiring passing through. Cant see thats the problem mate as when i lock the drivers door i can hear all the motors working in the other doors and tailgate. The only door this does not happen to is in the passanger front door. Just dont understand why i can hear the motors working and nothing happening. No movment of the inside handles and does not lock/un lock. -
Hi, The central locking on my galaxy does not lock or un lock my doors or tailgate. Sitting inside the car, when i lock it the car,i can hear the drivers door and what seems to be the tailgate and rear door motors doing somthing but the inside handles dont move, nor does it lock/unlock. Same when i use the key on the outside. The passanger side on the other hand is another story,In will unlock/lock with the key but no motors do anything. I understand that the motor on the passanger side is u/s but would have thought the rest would have worked when i unlock/lock the drivers side.Any ideas please? Thanks Leon

Thanks Insider, That was going to be my next port of call,I rememeber these use to be a pain in the backside with Mk3 Granadas! lol. Found 1 on ebay for -
Hi, I've just bought a 1997 2.3 galaxy.Starts fine when cold but once warm it will start then die.I have to put my foot on the gas when i turn it over then its starts ok. It also seems to tick over alittle high at around 1100 rpm till i blip the gas then it settles at 900 rpm. Not sure if its the same problem, but when im driving and goto slow down, put my foot on the clucth it rev quite high (around 1500) then settles at 900 rpm when i come to a complete stop, not before! I have no clucth drag. I did have a mis fire now and again when in a higher gear at low speed,Think i've almost got that one sorted tho.Seems that wiring around the engine, the insulation on the wiring seems to be cracking and flaking off.I've used insulating tape and covered up and bare wires. My only other gripe is the temp gauge is not reading,Comes on and moves when i turn the ignition on but thats it.I have seen it work once today but not for long.Think it could be to do with the wiring problem as its on that loom. Any pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks Leon
