  1. All fixed now and to follow up... Firstly, thanks again to both seatkid & silverbeast for your suggestions and you were both right! 4 fuses were blown in the car along with 3 broken wires just beyond the door gator to the driver's door which meant stripping off part of the trim to get to them. 3 of the fuses were the cause of the instrument cluster and the other fuse and wires the central locking. Auto electrician had it working again in an hour...wish I had a clue about electrics.
  2. Thanks seatkid. I have had a look in the door gators and the one at the boot. The only broken wires I can find are in the rear passenger door (whose electric window has never worked since I got the car). I have an auto electrician coming to see the car in the next couple of days and wondered if there is anything else that would cause both the instruments and the central locking to go nuts at the same time? Also, is it safe to drive with the instruments behaving like this? Will the ECU detect things and shut the car down for instance or am I being daft in thinking that is a possibility? Thanks again.
  3. As the post title says, the instruments and central locking on my 2002 Mk2 Alhambra diesel have gone berserk at the same time. Firstly, the clock & trip meter don't hold their settings anymore but work when the car is running (starting back at zero every time). The rev counter and battery volt meter have stopped working altogether. The speedo, fuel gauge, oil and engine temps are all still functioning. When turning on the ignition I have a warning light appearing for the ESP (according to the book) which has never been there before and goes away after a couple of seconds. This all started this morning! Also beginning today (linked?) the central locking has gone a bit loopy. When using the remote key to lock the car all doors lock except the drivers door. However, when using the key to unlock the car the drivers door then locks but all other doors unlock. I discovered this when the alarm went off very early this morning on my way out! Even using the key in the lock, the locks are behaving the same way. The car seems to be running OK, but I am lost as to where to start with this one. I have disconnected the battery for now and will try it again in a few hours but I don't hold out much hope for a cheap fix! Any advice/help etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. I have the exact same problem - aircon has never worked since I have owned the car and I don't really need cold air in Scotland!!! Anyway, I use a product called RainX Anti-Fog on my windows during the rainy season (all year up here) and it works reasonably well. Get it cheap on Ebay!!! I wouldn't say that the windows are totally clear when the car is fully loaded with kids, but it is much better than if I don't use it - and still cheaper than another car or fixing the aircon! Usually lasts about 3-4 weeks before I need to reapply, but a bottle lasts about 5 applications on my Alhambra. I do have a heated front screen and it is never too bad anyway, but the side windows can be totally steamed up if I don't use this.
  5. Don't know how much it would be on the Galaxy, but my wife just had the turbo go on her Fiat Doblo and to get it rebuilt (with full brand new core assembly and balancing) was £360 at a turbo specialist in Glasgow. Our local garage took £200 in parts and labour to remove & refit the turbo, change oil/filters, clean out sump, check and replace pipework and blank out the EGR valve at the same time. All in we were £560 for the Doblo - I would imagine it might be a bit more on the Galaxy and am only giving you a ballpark figure based upon what the cost was for us. You could try your luck with a secondhand turbo, but it could be hit or miss and you might end up in the same boat again pretty quickly. By the way, she also had the engine "runaway" when the turbo went - scary stuff!
  6. Thanks for the replies. Small update - gave the key a "shake" before leaving work today and it is now working!!! I will open it up and replace the batteries anyway, but it sounds like there is something not making proper contact inside the key or the battery is dying. Thanks again.
  7. Hello all - and thanks in advance for any advice given. My Alhambra remote locking has started acting up. The car won't unlock using the remote button from outside the car, but if you are inside the car and try it - it works!!(?) Even yesterday it was working fine, tried it today and the above is now happening. Using the key in the door is frightening at the moment as this is the only working key I have for the car and I am in frosty Scotland!!! My question is what is the likely cause? Am I looking at a new battery in the fob or could this be more sinister? Thanks.
  8. Had a similar - and frightening - experience on my Alhambra. Finally tracked it down to a leaking brake pipe at the back of the car next to the spring for the handbrake cable. The fluid would only seep through when the pedal was pressed and so two people were needed to find the fault. As chrispb123456 has said, something is leaking somewhere and I would get it checked out pronto for safety's sake!
  9. I recently had the same job done on my Alhambra. Tried EVERYWHERE for the gearbox flange and half shaft but in the end had to bite the bullet and go down the dealer route. Both parts cost exactly the same (coincidence???) and were around
  10. Recently replaced both outer driveshafts AND the intermediate & stub shaft on drivers side. Driveshafts cost
  11. Finally got round to changing my pollen filter this morning using this guide. From start to finish it took around 40 minutes and I was taking my time. Old topic I know, but I had to say thanks for this thread as it made what looks like a nasty job much easier. Still took a layer of skin off my knuckles though!!! Cheers! :P
  12. Might sound obvious, but have you checked/changed your oil recently? Also, petrol or diesel car etc? Some info would help.
  13. Just had to replace the exact same door part on my 2002 Alhambra TDi. Mirez is spot on with his price as I paid exactly
  14. Thanks for the link - I had found the guide already using the FAQ section but the weather beat me the other day and I had to give up!!! Main issue - as others have found - is the wiper motor/linkage getting in the way and my big hands!!! :) Will try again at the weekend. Cheers.
  15. Just changed oil/filters etc and used Carlube fully synthetic 505.01 (
