thanks guys and thanks bigjeeze for the link very useful sounds just whats happen to mine. we only bought the car in september and must of had the cable tie temporary repair for a while. i think i may do the temporary repair, and wait till the weather improves before attempting the crypton fatctor seat, dash, carpet removal. thanks and million everyone cheers ben

Had the same problem with the '96 2ltr. The cup of the ball joint at the gearbox end of the selector cable has worn and popped off. You can do a tempory fix if you put it back in place and then "wire tie" the two control cables together. If you look down into the engine bay just behind the battery box you should be able to see the problem. hi guys this is the first forum i have ever been on and i am amazed that anyone wanted to help. had a look today a little dificult as very tight for space and found the rods you speak of, mostly by feel. the 2nd higher one seem very sloppy and as i looked more found a loose cable tie that didnt look original ford. could this be the problem and the evidence of a previous fix. i will have a closer look and get it on the lift. is it it easier to access it from underneath from behind the engine. can i recable tie it? also you mention cabletieing the two cables together is that right many thanks for you help you seem to have had the same problem as me at some point thanks again my out look on the human race has improved

having trouble with the gear seletion at the moment and dont know whats wrong seems like we can only selet 3 4 and reverse stick moves into position of 1 and 2 but seems still in 3 and 4 what is the problem are the gear seletion cables or rods any help much apreciated cheers ben
