  1. This may seem like a dumb question, but what is the difference between the Ford/VW (or Polish) Drive shafts @
  2. I feel like an idiot now! :) I saw that same thread earlier before posting and looked at the 2nd pic and didn't click... thanks for the sanity checking though, much appreciated. :(
  3. So last weekend I thought as I'm selling the old girl (to get an Aldi A6 Avant 2.5TDI) I would fix my non-functional NSR window... easy enough at first! pull back the rubber boot and see the broken brown cable - AHA! So I sort that out in a few minutes and think to myself "Why didn't I do this sooner? Oh yeah the baby is on that side so it wouldn't get used anyway". So with that done I operate the switch and hear an awful RURURURURUR, the window doing it's own thing and getting stuck half way down <insert 5 minutes worth of expletives whilst removing the door card to see what up to find the cable loose :( so take the regulator off and remove the motor section from the vertical shaft bit to see the cables have got eaten up and damaged :) The break in the brown cable did seem very straight... So got on ebay and found a cable repair kit for
  4. Hi, sign up to http://www.vagcat.com/ it's free, then you can use the parts catalogue for just about any VAG range car, as the Galaxy is a VW re-badged (bar the 2.3L engine) you'll find what you're looking for :)
  5. Bloody car!!! Got the Alt. off then noticed the screws that hold the bush kit in place are already worn, looks like it's been done before! anyway, soaked them in penetrating oil for a 5 mins then tried and the head gave way on one of them. Going to get it recovered from my work tomorrow and take the Alt. to a local garage and get them to drill the screws out as I don't trust myself doing that, I'd end up ruining the threads. This car is going ASAP!
  6. Just ordered the bush kit,
  7. Will check the voltage between the alt and aux fuse box, that's one test I didn't check - always good to cover all avenues. Thanks guys. 14V on my bosses car would be due to new battery a few months ago after I had to jump start him a few times and pick him up when it was -20 and apparently Alfa's won't start if it's under -10C  Will get the brushes first, they're sure to be a heck of a lot cheaper than a new alt or recon unit.
  8. Hi all, Had the light come on, on the way to work, about 5 miles from the office and as I was about to join the A34  The car got me to work, and didn't drive home and got a lift from my boss as I didn't want the battery to die on my and lose power steering on some of the twisty roads I have to drive on! I've done the searches and found out how to check the voltages etc my results are below: with car running, 12.00V-12.04V Across the battery terminals and from the big cable on the Alt. to the Neg. on the battery. no Change if revving the car (normal?) Pushing on the tensioner to make the belt 'tighter' didn't change the voltage either. With car off, 12.34V-12.40V across the battery terminals and from the big cable on the Alt. to the Neg. on the battery. Checked the multimeter on my bosses car and his was 14V+ while on, and 12.9V while off (a bit high?). There was an odd noise coming from the engine bay - possibly the alt, not the chirping of the pulley as that was changed last year, new belt last year at the same time. Now does that tell you good gentlemen that the brushes need replacing? :) TIA for your help!
  9. Ahh, that explains it cheers  Saves writing to the dev about it.
  10. Hello all you Shalaxy owners :) I'm not sure how many of you have smart phones or tablet devices, but I hope someone finds this useful! I'm a bit of a geek and frankly like my gadgets, I've known of the Torque application for the Android OS for some time and plucked up the guts to buy a BlueTooth OBDII Dongle from ebay for
  11. Check the stickies in here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=73.0 Or search that sub-forum as lots of questions have been asked there. also watch this space (the tech forum here) I have a new toy to play with and will be reporting back on it soon!
  12. Hi Chris, I've not checked that. I had him out on Friday, he said he tightened up the bolt he replaced, took it for a test drive over the worst roads in my area and all seemed fine. Then on Saturday just as we were nearing the end of our journey I had the noise reappear, not as bad as before but annoying, had it on the way back home later on Saturday - again not nearly as bad and I've not had it again...
  13. Spoke too soon. Had to break hard today because some tw!t cut me up on a round about and CLANK! Now I get the noise when braking quickly, feels and sounds the same as before. Told the mechanic to come tomorrow to have a look as it's happened within a week of it being 'fixed'. Not happy! :angry2:
  14. A neighbour retrofitted some to his Honda and I was wondering about these. Should they prevent wind noise or create more like the Davec found? Some pics of the ones you picked up compared to the ones Greggers has would be good, then we can see what the difference is if any
  15. 'Get the big hammer out!' my uncle used to say when fixing my mothers Beetle   Thanks to everyone for your help and suuggestions, much appreciated ;)
