I've now pulled trim back on rear hatch and released catch. (Mk 2 2002 plate) Checked wires but no sign of any bare wire(s) that could have been shorting to earth. My gut feel is that there is something that I've done and that there is a common denominator that links all three problems (No front & rear heated screens and no central locking). Any further ideas?!

How would that explain that the front and rear heated screens are not working? Are you saying that a short to ground at the rear tailgate, as well as stopping the central locking from working, would also reduce the voltage so as to prevent the front and rear screens from operating? (In respect of rear screen, in darkness I can see a glimmer of a yellow light within the switch and hear a relay clicking when operating switch). Thanks for help!

A number of faults have manifested themselves on my 2002 1.9Tdi Galaxy subsequent to changing the auxiliary heater glowplug and flushing coolant system due to heater not working. Auxiliary heater is now working and heater also, (indicating a possible airlock prior to flushing and refilling coolant). Unfortunately now the tail gate cannot be opened, the central locking does not work, the heated rear screen does not work and likewise the heated front screen. I

Just checked brake lights. They are working fine. Anyone with VAG-COM in Telford Shropshire area?!

I have a 2002 115psi Galaxy. The engine periodically loses power and the ESP light immediately lights up. This has got progressively worse. At present the ESP light remains illuminated at start up with the engine not delivering the power it should. As a pre-cursor to getting the fault codes read at the local Ford dealer, is there anything obvious that I should be checking?!

Thanks for advice and learning that ESP has the authority to cut engine power! I think it is worth starting a new post mentioning the significance of the ESP light in the off chance that someone may be able to offer a few further pearls of wisdom. Otherwise I will probably have to book into local Ford dealer to get some readouts.

I have a 2002 115psi galaxy with a problem that appears strikingly similar! The engine can be running perfectly and then there is a sudden loss of power immediatley accompanied by the Electronic Stability Warning light coming on. This problem has progressively worsened. Have you got to the bottom of your problem yet?

Many thanks for all your help. After scouring tarmac where Galaxy had been parked, I opened the boot and saw a little black piece of plastic sitting on the rear lip. Without the photograph I would have dismissed this without a second thought. I feel so lucky! (Therein lies a warning to anyone if unfortunate to drop a key and have it fall apart. Make sure this innoculous bit of black plastic hasn't detached itself!) :lol:

Is that located in the inner compartment where the battery and PCB is located, or in the space between the blade component and the remote fob?

Where should that be located, how small is it & what does it look like?

I accidently dropped the Remote Key onto a hard surface and it fell into two parts. I pushed it back together and remote unlocking worked. Unfortunately engine (2002 115psi TDI) would only run for a second and then died. It starts perfectly with spare key. I've reprogrammed Remote Key, but it will still only lock/unlock the car. I've looked inside key and everything looks to be present and correct! Does anyone have any suggestions please?! :lol:

Thanks for suggestions. Warning message has now stopped of it's own accord after giving brakes/ABS a few hard tests! I would still be interested to learn of what sensor(s) give rise to such a warning. (I surmise that it shouldn't be anything to do with pads as that is a separate pictogram warning that didn't appear). :lol:

The above message appears on my 2002 115psi Ghia, sometimes as soon as I turn igniiton on; alternatively when I start engine. The brakes work fine. When I consult the handbook & FSE disc no detail is given. All pads & discs are in good condition, being changed earlier this year. Fluid level is okay. I have had wheels off and visually checked all brake components. Nothing is obviously wrong. (I re-bled front brakes just to be doubly sure, but there was no air. When I changed pads 3 months & 2,000 miles ago, I clamped hose and released bleed nipples). Any suggestions as to what is giving rise to warning?!

Don't assume that a 2002 with 16ins alloys has been fitted with the larger discs, particulalry on the rear. My March 02 registered Galaxy with 16ins alloy wheels has the smaller discs on the back, (although these were only fitted up to August 2000 according to the brake catalogues!) You also need to check if sensors are fitted before ordering pads. (Nearside rear does not have a sensor, only offside rear).
