  1. If you need more light just fit the Halfords Brilliance bulbs. Non-Hid and far brighter. Please don't fit the laser blue version though, I hate it when those bloody things are coming towards me :-)
  2. Cheers. I checked within the boot but none of the wires are broken/chaffed. Any other suggestions gratefully received. I also can't access the FAQ's for a PC or a MAC so I've contacted the forum mods to ask them to check as they are an invaluable source of advice.
  3. A bit of a weird central locking problem with which I would appreciate some advice. My car is a 2000 (W) Mk.2 Alhambra (Galaxy with a sombrero). The central locking operates all locks except the boot. The boot lock operates with the key. I can also unlock the rest of the car via the boot lock and lower the windows etc. All other electrics at the rear of the car are working fine and I cannot see any chaffed cabling (having searched the forum most locking problems seem related to this). There is no clunk from the, I guess, actuator which opens/closes the lock. Before I strip out the tailgate, have I missed something obvious? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. Evening all (or whatever time it is where you are). Some help please from someone with access to EKTA for a part number. The two rubber/plastic bushes that go under the plastic engine cover (and are a push fit onto the block and the cover) on my Mk.1 1.9 TDi have perished. The local dealer denied they existed (well virtually) when I called. It would be great if someone could give me a VW (or, if I have to pay Ford prices, Ford) part number for these. Many thanks in advance.
  5. I have tried holding it a really long time. I have also taken it to the local Ford Dealer, who have plugged the computer in and looked at all the country settings etc, to make sure it was still set for the UK market. They said that it was not possible to change between Miles and Kilometers without changing the country setting. I'm going to try the Disconnect the battery, then reconnect with the trip reset held in, but hold it in for a really long time, like 2/3 minutes, if my son's finger can hold it that long! NikpV- thanks for your rapid response to this question! As a newbie I did not realise there was so much help out there Well, three years on and it happened again! GRRR! Anyway the simple 'press the button' fix didn't work but.... (unless you have very long arms you will need help) if you disconnect the battery get someone to pess AND HOLD the odometer trip and then reconnect the battery, after about 30 seconds those pesky kilometers disappear and are replaced by nice friendly miles. I had forgotten the original 'fix' and am so pleased that this thread was still 'searchable'. Thanks to the mods and admins on this forum - great job folks for which my sincere thanks.
  6. A meticulous inspection of everything that I can see, wobble, grab and shake, prod etc. reveals, absolutely nothing! Disc shields are fine, nothing appears loose, no tell-tale signs of anything rubbing (bright or unusually 'clean' areas) all hoses and pipes are nicely clipped into place. I'm stumped! B)
  7. Cheers Im going to check the disc guards this evening. Silly, but all I now listen for is the bl**dy annoying '22 mph plink' every time that I drive the car. Even got my son paranoid about it :D . Still it's a good way to get a 'Kevin' of a teenager actually communicating with his dad "I heard that noise again" is more preferable than the nomal monosyllabic grunt.
  8. Main agent parts prices are a rip off- end of. Now use GSF (German Swedish French) exclusively for OEM parts (about 40-50% cheaper). Never had a problem and they seem to have more knowledge about the vehicles anyway. Link to their site if it helps anyone http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
  9. Matt The noise definitely comes from under the o/side of the car. Not very loud (how do you describe loud?) sort of a "plink" metallic noise that sounds like something 'releasing'.
  10. Sadly, it's not rev related. I can 'hold' at say 1000-1200 revs and creep (literally) up to 20-22 mph and then; click. Alternatively, I can floor the throttle and race (well, it's all relative in a TDi) with revs well above 3000 and nothing until....20-22mph! Not worrying, just annoying.
  11. Sorry for the delay in getting back on topic. The noise happens every time I hit 20-22 mph. It's really odd. Doesn't happen in reverse (had to find a nice quiet bit of road where I could reverse at speed). Handling and performance are unaffected (have had some fast motorway runs and a lot of urban driving over the past week). ANY suggestions would be much appreciated.
  12. Apologies, as I posted this originally in the 'General' section by mistake. Any help with this one would be appreciated. My 2000 TDi SE Auto Alhambra (47,000 on the clock) has developed a strange metallic 'pinging' noise (happens just once each time as if something is releasing). The puzzling thing is that it happens at 20-22mph and is not related to revs but speed. Have tried pulling off in all (auto) gears, revving while in park no noise until the car hits 20-22 mph. Noise has been there for about ten days, is not getting any louder or more frequent. It seems to come from the front o/s. Handling and performance are unaffected but it is just b***** annoying. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  13. It worked sir, hence the offer of a pint
  14. Masked Marauder you sir are an absolute star. B****** dealer wanted to book the car in for an hour! Should you ever be in Ealing (and not driving) a pint awaits! Thanks again. Nigel Brooks Incidentally if anyone with a TDi needs a new battery Halfords are some
