Just had an update....yes still not sorted!!! They have found the fault after endless amounts of time trying everything. The ABS PUMP has shot....they disconnected it & plugged in the diagnostics & bingo access allowed!!! Now to find a pump

Update: Mirez, thank you for the info. I've just spoken to my guy and the VW tech has come up with the same: K-=Line is the diagnostic bus They have come to the conclusion that this is the only thing that could be causing the problem. Even the VW Diag machine couldn't read the ecu!!! Hopefully now this will get sorted, fingers crossed. I'll post an update as & when i hear more. To all that have replied thank you for your help & shedding much valued light on the situation. Cheers Dave

Mirez, thanks for that. I haven't had a chance to drive it since they have had the car. They seem to believe it is in limp mode as soon as you start the car. Up until the car went in for the gearbox the only problem i had was the engine going into limp mode underload. Like most people i would just turn the ignition on & off and it would run fine! What i'll do is print this off and show it to my mechanic. I'm due to talk to him in a bit to see what the the vw tech has said. Thanks for the help and advice, if anyone else can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Thanks Seatkid, I'll pass this on. I have a VW technician coming out later today to look at it. They have assured me they have checked everything!! I think a fresh pair of eyes on it is the best way foward. The Diagnostic kit they use i have actually seen both working on my car on previous occasions so i know they work..hopefully the vw guy will bring his own piece of kit just in case.

Thanks Chris, Just spoke to the mechanic & there is power getting to the diag machines, they do power up but all they get is a connection error cannot read on the display screens!! He has said once they can get can in & read the codes they can see what's going on.

Hi Jinksy, Thanks for the reply. I would hope the mechanics did! I have added a new post as the situation hasn't been resolved. Cheers

My car has been off the road for over 3 weeks now so i am desperate for help!! I had a gearbox & driveshaft fitted to my galaxy & when it was all ready to go it was taken for a test drive to be told the car is guttless!! The garage has tried 4 different diag machines on the ecu but all that appears is connection failure. Now without being able to read the codes & see what the fault is the garage can't get it out of limp mode!! Any ideas?? They have checked all the wiring & also followed the wiring diagrams sent by Bosch but no success. The only thing they haven't done is change the ecu!! By the way the car starts fine & idles perfectly well. No warning lights appear on the dash. If the ecu is at fault can they be repaired or is it a new one i have to get?? Thanks in advance Dave Ford Galaxy 1.9tdi(pd) 2004

Just had gearbox & new drive shaft fitted. All fine according to the mechanic. When he drove it he said it was gutless!! He plug his machine in and it just comes up with no communication. 2 other machines can't read the fault codes either. It's not his equipment as i have seen it working on there before. Has anyone got any ideas as to why this could happen & how to you get around it? 1.9tdi 115bhp 2004 Cheers Dave

Thanks Mirez, I'll have a chat with a couple of people this morning & then sit down with my mechanic and see what the best way forward is. Thanks again Dave

After posting the other day (urgent advise). The car has been on the ramp :) I've been told the gearbox needs replacing along with the o/s driveshaft etc etc etc... Gearbox quoted

Hi Guys Broke down on Friday had to be recovered. Car is going on the ramp as i type. The problem i lost drive, sitting at 70 coming into roadworks so eased of and slipped down to 5th gear....no drive!!! clutch pedal fine gear selection fine but no drive. Rolled into the hard shoulder. With the engine running i could select every gear without depressing the clutch!!!!!!! Now there was no clonk, noise, no tell tale signs....has anyone got any ideas?? Quick response would be very appreciated Cheers Dave 04 Galaxy 1.9tdi 115bhp(pd) 6 Speed manual gearbox

Hi All, It's been a while since my last post simply because my Gal has been running well. But now i have major problems & a new camshaft & lifters have to be replaced. Does anyone know of a good supplier (non ford rip off) who is online? The car goes in early next week & if i can source the parts myself it will keep the cost down. Thanks i Advance Dave

No Power When Starting Journey
taxidave replied to davewill's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've just had the same thing happen on my 04 19tdi, i took it to the garage my mechanic plugged in his magic machine to checked for error codes.....NON APPEARED but here's a tip that he does all the time....although nothing is there still clear the system....low and behold back to a normal running car!!!! This may or may not work for you but it's a far cheaper option than having everything changed like some mechanics or dealerships would do....cost me 6 cream cakes for the lads tea break :) hope this helps -
Juddering At 40-50 Mph
taxidave replied to A Krisis's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have a 2004 1.9tdi 115 bhp 242,000 miles on the clock and it appears from what you are describing is that it's the cv joint. mine is in the garage as i type having yet another fitted (under warranty) this will be the third in just over 12 months!!! can't remember how much they are but labour is minimal as it only takes my mechanic about 20mins max to swap them over. Hope this helps Cheers Dave -
Running Rough / Misfire

All is well on the misfire front. My mechanic replaced an injector & now it runs like a new car :D The injector i managed to go & collect on Thursday morning from a company in Northampton -
Petrol In A Diesel Engine
taxidave replied to sean l's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Sean, It's a real bummer when this happens as i've done it myself. I would suggest getting the tank emptied. You probably could get away with filling the car with diesel & keeping it topped up. I have done this myself but the car will run rough for at least a week & it is a real sod to get started as well. Hope you get it sorted -

Update on yesterdays events. I left the car a couple of hours and went back out and it started & no misfire!! i drove it round the block & fine but this morning i took it 5 miles to my mechanic & it started again. The Diagnostics had picked up a fault with one of the injectors (1) my guy is going look later this morning & let me know what the problem is....he's guessing at the moment that it's the wiring thats shot as this is common....i hope so don't fancy the cost of a new injector!!!!
