  1. hi gregers - unfortunately it was private purchase and i didnt notice the problem at the time - you have to be driving 'carefully' not heavily to reproduce the fault!!
  2. Hi there First thing is this the 4 or 5 speed changing fluid and filter on 4 speed is easy as sump can be removed and filter changed, on the 5 speed you cannot change filter without G/box removal, on both boxes you will not be able to remove all the fluid because of design so to do a good change you need to change fluid 2 or 3 times with a drive between changes the colour of the fluid is a good indication as to the condition of the fluid it should be a cherry red colour. This is all against what Fords say the fluid is in there for life. I take that to mean 300rpm rise with no increase in speed Have you had the car long or just bought it with this fault I think I would be inclined to do a fluid level check first you will also see the colour of fluid also. There is a set procedure for checking fluid level/draining in the FAQ section Hope thats of help to you ;) hi chrispb - firstly thanks for replying to my post - much appreciated. i bought the car last november and it has had the fault the whole time, never getting any better or any worse. yes, correct, the revs increase but the speed doesnt. i did read the info on here regarding the procedure for checking the oil level, and have spoken to frauds who did say that the box is sealed for life, which seems a lame approach to me. i will attempt the oil level check this weekend but think it may be an idea to buy a replacement filler tube/dipstick thingy part first as i have read that people have had them snap off when removing to check, i assume this relates to my gearbox which is the ag4 type (4 speed), and the sump is accessible for removal. i wondered if removing the sump to change the oil may be a simpler option, at least for the first change if there are filters to change aswell so as to do it all at once. i have spoken to a couple of auto specialists today who both seem to think it could be either electrical or mechanical failure rather than an oil issue, however i have also heard that sludgy oil causes problems and i can hardly expect mine to be rosy red after doing 110k miles!! ;) thanks again for the info. rich.
  3. i have a 1999 galaxy ghia tdi auto, with a slight gearbox issue. i dont know whether its electrical or mechanical or if it needs an oil change so any help and advice from anyone who has had similar problem or has knowledge would be very very much appreciated! the gearbox goes into gears fine, it drives fine and changes up and down as it should, however when travelling at fixed speed of anything under around 70mph the revs 'surge' a little approx every 5 seconds. it sounds like a 'slip'. when i say surge, i mean there is a slight increase in rpm, approx 300rpm then revs drop back to constant again. quite a strange one for me - i have driven many autos before, some of which had faults but none which have done this!! i dont want to keep driving and get a hefty bill for a replacement box! help please!!!
  4. nice contribution - thanks. happy new year!
  5. you need to remove the indicators and you will find an 8mm bolt on each end where the panel meets the wings. without removing these you will bust the plastics!! hope that helps.
  6. thanks again for the advice - i have a tis disc somewhere amongst the pile of diagnostic cables and interfaces in the garage so will look at that first - at least i can stay in the warm to do that! ref your heater - have you tried replacing the sensor on the wiper linkages for a mini fuse in case the sensor is faulty? i'm sure you've heard of that temp fix but maybe worth a go as its easy! merry xmas. rich.
  7. thanks for your info scorpio, much appreciated. have already covered most checking aspects you mentioned, and opened the fusebox spaghetti junction area to check the 2 relevant relays, which energised correctly, unfortunately the cold got to me by this point so i stuffed the whole lot back into the dash and gave up! rather stupid of me on reflection that i could have checked continuity of the major fuses at the back when i had it apart ;) i will look into the fuses thing tomorrow if its better than minus 4 here by then! i read the haynes page wiring diagram and identified two possible fuse culprits though knowing my luck it will be something completely different to fuses, as we all know, its rarely that simple! sorry to hear about yr aux heater, i fixed mine 3 weeks ago after fitting a new eberspacher pump so at least when the car does start it warms up reasonably!! whats occuring with yours?? merry xmas :(
  8. do you mean heater pipe or aircon pipe? either one is probs going to require half the dash fascia removed to replace heater matrix or similar unfortunately.
  9. lol. i have done this with a case of wine - do i have a drink problem??!! merry xmas!
