Not Turning Over
barachello replied to barachello's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
ok thinks I have diagnosed the fault as the starter motor as when I had it out and wired it up to my other car, at first it did not spon, but after a few thumps with a hammer it started to spin slowly. Can these be reconditioned ? -
Not Turning Over

I have checked the ignition switch, and this is what I have found : http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/003-2.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/002-2.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/001-4.jpg Does it look right ? -
Wife got into the car this morning, turned the key and nothing happened. So took key out, put it in again tried again, this time it started, and off she went. Arrived at petrol station, filled up, got in and same thing happened again, but again started on second attempt. Got home, rang me, and tried to start it with me on the phone, and nothing happened. I am now home, and engine is still not starting. It does not even try to turn over, there is a click in the engine, but not sure where its coming from. I can't hear the fuel pump or anything. All dash lights light up as normal, windows go up and down at normal speed. Tried Jumping the battery, but no difference. When the key is put in and turned, the red light in the door lights and then goes out. Car was fine yesterday, and last night. I am assuming it is electrical as it is not even making any attempt to turn over. Any one help ?

thats great news. This sounds like it may be the problem to my starting problem then. I had always thought that the engine seemed very slow to turn over first thing in the morning, as if it was a poor battery charge, but I got it checked and it was fine ! Local motor factors here I come............... thanks

I find it strange that the oil appears to be pretty much all around the housing, but only one real indication from the right hand side of the sensor. I never thought about trying instant gasket around it, thanks will keep it in mind. Will try to give it a good clean tomorrow, and see what happens.

Hi all, back again with a query Sad There was an oil leak from my Gal when I bought it. The oil was running down the back of the oil filter and dripping off it onto the ground - nothing too severe. I had thought that maybe it had been a poorly fitted or damaged oil filter, and so replaced it as normal when I did a quick service. Unfortunately the leak is still there, again, not very bad, but I know it is there, and so annoying http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/DSC00400.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/DSC00401-1.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/barachello/DSC00402.jpg Any help, as always, very much appreciated

Have you checked the wires in the black rubber boot, whoch are at the top of the boot door ? They quite often break, and cause a few problems

Hi Hoping to do a quick oil and filter change tomorrow if the weather is ok. Can anyone tell me what size the sump nut is on a mk1 1.9tdi Galaxy? Also is what shape is it ? thanks

Immobiliser Door Led
barachello replied to barachello's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have only ever seen it flash once, that I am aware of lol. What is unlucky about the diesel ? -
The red light in the door for the immobilser lights up every time when the key is turned in the ignition, but does not flash when the car is locked. Is this likely to be a wiring problem or more likely an immobilser fault ?

Quick Vagcom Question

thats great thanks -
A friend is going to do a quick scan on my Galaxy for fault codes tonight, but has never used it on a ford before and has asked me how it is done. He tells me that when the lead is connected, a car has to be selected in the software. Is this the case ? If so, what does he choose ? thanks

Display Panel Lights Go Out
barachello replied to biffo4444's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Many Thanks. It came out easily as previously described - 4 cross head screws and then had to unclip the two instrumentation leads with a bit of a squeeze. Bit of lateral thinking to orientate the panel to remove it from behind the steering wheel. The holders come out easily with long noze pliers with a 1/4 turn. Bulbs pulled out easily with fingers. The panel had 4 large bulbs which I replaced with R501 12V 5W capless bulbs - these had all gone black. And 8 small bulbs which I replaced with R286 12V 1.2W capless bulbs - all for about -
From my dads 2005 Mazda 6, only a year old, with receipt and fitting instructions. Requires removal of factory fit radio, and this single slot cd is added to it before refitting. Cost

no probs the display comes out on one lump so you will have no probs/ From memory there are only about 5 or 6 bulbs to replace anyway.
